I am skeptical of the prices, this car will have minimal impact in the market nevermind the skoda fans in the forum for the simple reason that the cost value equation is way off and mere brand cannot make up for the gap. The car is ordinary, the price is not.

This was an opportunity for Skoda to build a good brand equity and delivering a superb product that gives good value, now they are going to come across as unreal and overpriced and this will impact performance and perception of their other products with people re-evaluating whether its value/brand for money.

They have let themselves be carried away by their imagined brand value based on the perception of Octavia launched in an immature market with few good products.

Man those prices are exactly 1L more than they ought to be. They even benefit from the excise cut due to the smaller sized engine.

Hyundai Is nothing compared with these prices.

And I do not think this is over priced by 1 Lac but in fact 1.5 Lacs.

Way overpriced - I would prefer the Hyundai Verna anyday.

Bye Bye Fabia - I would never buy you because of your exorbitant price

Hello Verna - I love you.

Even if Fabia was around 5L starting price, I wonder how many would buy it. Reason being maintenance and repair costs.

I think sometime back some bigshot in Skoda made it clear that they want their cars to be premium cars. So it would be people who are "obsessed with quality" who will buy Skoda products.

If I have to pay 9L, I dont know how many indian buyers (who are best when it comes to VFM) will be inclined to this car.

Even customers seeking quality and brand would easily go for a NHC.

Bottomline, they need to make a profit. Skoda may have thought - lets sell 500 per month with a high margin and make a profit similar to 3000 per month at a lower price. This way they maintain their premium image also as well as fleece the few who buy when it comes to A.S.S too.

That is exactly their target is 500 per month. In one of interviews, Skoda official said that they are planning to sell around 4000-5000 Fabias this year. So we should not be surprised at the price but surely when somebody buys it.

such low sales would also align with their thin service and dealer network. unlike maruti/hyundai, skoda is not really geared to a high volume car

Isn't skoda fooling customers by not launching the base variants? I'm afraid the base variants may exist only on paper.

Good that I didn't wait for this and bought my Swift.

Ford Fusion Comparison

Guys,
Ford Fusion is priced at about 7.75 OTR Bangalore - With more features, the Ambiente priced at 8.5 L OTR. ABS/MSR/Airbags and tons of goodies sounds reasonable.

I should also think, if Fusion justified in its pricing for the puny engine at 7.75L?

9.08L OTR for Bangalore sounds atrocious to me - There would be a huge waiting list for this too.

Lets keep waiting for the next BIG thing

I'll be making downpayment for Sunlight Copper Swift DDiS with ABS tomorrow! I would have gone for the Fabia if they had launched it with the orange color. Hope to smoke some Fabias after Pete'fying (how else can I say it!) the swift after it runs in. [I'll use saved money for Bravo!!!]
