Read about it here

Yes - it includes rules like - driving without wipers , bad tyres and smoky exhauts..well just read that.

The link took me to a generic page with Santa Claus front page article in Mumbai edition. Please post instructions on how to navigate to the article.

Hey buddy,
It's on Page 3 of the Mumbai paper.
It mentions a Rs 100 fine for sunfilm but isn't sunfilm legal in Mumbai?

thanks lambo. I guess Mumbai is going the Delhi way as far as Sun film is concerned. I hope Bangalore cops don't get any such ideas about sunfilm

Here is the actual information in that article

Quote:

Offence list for 2008
Driving without wiper — Rs 100
Defective tyres — Rs 100
Improper number plate — Rs 100
Alteration to vehicle — Rs 300
Cars fitted with sun film —Rs 100
Not parking in prescribed manner — Rs 100
Parking in a street corner — Rs 100
Causing obstruction to other vehicles with manner of parking — Rs 100
Smoky exhaust emitting from car — Rs 500
Multi-toned or shrill horn — Rs 500
Carrying goods unsecured (on carrier) — Rs 100
Driving without illuminated rear number plate — Rs 100
Failing to slow down at intersection — Rs 100
Driving in the centre of the road — Rs 100

Two laws, which kind of confusing me.
Alteration to vehicle — Rs 300
Cars fitted with sun film —Rs 100

So moded cars will have a fine now and also, what about the RTO aproved sunfilm ?

Looks like Mumbai police have set their collection targets for the new year:eek:

Good luck to all you guys in Mumbai.

Drive Safe & follow the commandments.

Dont think these are new rules. See most of these are already there, atleast in KA. And posted on some hoardings too.

@Condor - These aren't. The article mentions that these rules will be strictly enforced this coming year to make Mumbai more traffic friendly.

its real funny.. theres no mention YET. to move out of the way if you see an ambulance in your rear view mirror. People still tend to drive in front of an ambulance and not give way.

Driving without wiper — Rs 100: How are they going to check this?

Defective tyres — Rs 100: 100% of trucks, taxi's, auto's and bikes. 50% of cars. That should be a good windfall.

Improper number plate — Rs 100: 100% of Political cars and anyone remotely connected with politics. Zero earings from these vehicles though.

Alteration to vehicle — Rs 300: Definition of alteration? If I put alloy's isnt that modification?

Cars fitted with sun film —Rs 100: Ridiculous!

Not parking in prescribed manner — Rs 100:We are forced to do this because the government does'nt think providing parking is a part of infratstructure. 100% of Taxi's but zero earnings.

Parking in a street corner — Rs 100: Taxi's, bikes, auto's. Could be a good earning potential but again in reality the few private owners will be fined.

Causing obstruction to other vehicles with manner of parking — Rs 100: Same as above. How about starting with the police Qualis?

Smoky exhaust emitting from car — Rs 500: 100% of commercial vehicles.

Multi-toned or shrill horn — Rs 500: This is okay. I support this.

Carrying goods unsecured (on carrier) — Rs 100: 100% of commercial vehicles.

Driving without illuminated rear number plate — Rs 100: 100% of commercial, taxi's, muncipal vehicles. Even a couple of cop cars.

Failing to slow down at intersection — Rs 100: 100% of all vehicles on the roads! Including cops cars.

Driving in the centre of the road — Rs 100: Same as above.

Oh come on ! Just when i spend a packet on putting Vcool they decide to ban sunfilms !!
They already have an RTO limit on the shade of the film, does the fine relate to that or is it a total ban?
Does Delhi have a total ban on sunfilms too or lighter shades allowed?

This is indeed not so good news. And Ban on Sunfilms I think it would refer to ban on the Non-RTO specified type.. 70% visibility on the front and rear and 50% on the sides is currently permissible. Unless the Cops cannot interpret the rules and catch all cars with Sunfilm the way it happened in Delhi recently.

Incorrect license plate, Im ok with that.: Does this mean the Marathi script, the Words in small and Numerals in Triple size font? The 1786 type number plate where 1 is very small and 786 is large size..

Improper parking, corner parking etc are ok to be fined. But are the owners to be penalised for incomplete infrastructure? Doesnt the RTO register new vehicles every day, dont they realise the impeding traffic congestion and infrastructure?

Smoke out of exhaust: Hmm Will they catch all trucks and commercial vehicles. What about the BEST buses which are enemy number 1?

This news shocked me. I did not know there were any traffic rules in India.

How is the average Indian driver to keep up with all these changes? Everyday a new set of rules to ignore.

What has ban on sun films got to do with being traffic friendly? Weird.
