Hyundai i10 is Business Standard Motoring Car Of the Year 2008

Hyundai i10: BS Motoring Car of the Year

The Hyundai i10 just beat out the Logan. The other cars in the fray were the BMW 3 series, 5 series, Volkswagen Passat, Chevrolet Spark and the Suzuki SX4.

Also, the Bajaj XCD 125 is the Bike of the Year beating the RTR 160 and the Pulsar 200 and 200DTSfi.

Quote:

Apart from the Car and Bike of the Year, Business Standard Motoring also announced winners in other categories. The ebullient Chevrolet Spark won the Business Standard Motoring Best Value 2008 award and the Mahindra Renault Logan picked up the Business Standard Motoring Jury Award 2008 - given to the most significant car other than the COTY winner.
The Business Standard Motoring Performance Car of the Year 2008 is the BMW 325i, a brilliant driving enthusiast's car, while the feature-rich Volkswagen Passat is the Business Standard Motoring Premium Car of the Year 2008.
Among two-wheelers, the TVS Apache RTR 160 stole the Business Standard Motoring performance bike of the year 2008 award while the Kinetic-Sym Flyte is the Business Standard Motoring Scooter of the Year.

This is from the guys who voted the U-VA ,last year.
From the reviews in ACI, I reckon the i10 will win the CNBC-Autocar COTY.

It had to be the 2007 car of the year. It has taken the small car game to a new level.

I think its the interiors. Its a very good step-up from the competition in the segment. However, the rest of the package is still 'old wine in new bottle'.

But the car makes sense. I would love my hatch to have good quality interiors.

The i10 surely deserved this award. This hatch is going to go a long way like the Santro did.

I doubt whether the i10 should have been IT. It is after all essentially a Santro upgrade. Very typical that half way through a model life cycle you have a minor update (Xing) and then replace it. The only reasons that it is not the new Santro appear to be the new naming scheme of Hyundai, and the wish to milk the last dregs off the Santro. Would it have been car of the year as the New Santro!!

Would not a newer car like the SX4 or Logan have been a better choice.

I think there must be three or four COTY awards one for each segment otherwise its difficult to say i10 scores over say BMW. that is nonsense. but as a hatch I believe i10 is cool, though extremely pricey like the uva.

The i10 is good, but nothing too good apart from the interiors. That too at a price.

IMO, the SX4 should have been awarded the COTY 2008. It is fantastic value.
