The other thing you should keep in mind is that people who buy these budget cars will not use them on a daily basis. They will use it only on weekends or very sparsely during weekdays. They are aimed at people who use their bikes to carry their entire family.

Small cars are more in number because we are a developing country.The situation is chaotic because our roads are still the same since independence and all our govts. have turned a blind eye towards new road projects and road safety regulations.

A few days back I was watching a group discussion on TV regarding the upcoming expressway project in Kerala. So an opinion put forward by an "eminent" person was that--"Why should the state government spend their money on developing roads for people who want to drive fast, we have the NH which links all our cities and that is more than enough."

Why do these guys always think of today,why cant they be more proactive?

why will it be used only on weekends? I mean that if i get a car at a price less than 2 Lacs with AC, power steering, sense of security (as ARAI does have pre-defined safety norms) and to add on higher FE as being claimed in newspapers then I will use it for my daily commute to home-office-home & will use my bigger car on weekends with my family.

This would attract both kind of buyers,

There would be ones who are buying it for their daily routine. Possibly less than 25kms per day.

And there would be those that buy this for the weekend, for wife shipping or for driver dropping kids to school.

Meets different aspirations.

These would not be ideal high travel vehicle (greater than 50kms per day) due to the comfort factor.

@farid
Let me be honest. Given a choice I would not buy a car like Nano, I would like to drive a bigger car. For a 1st time car owner the running cost between a car and a bike is huge. This is why i said what i said.

Seen this car long time back on NDTV I think and yes bumper looks like it was made for some other (and bigger) car. Its giving an ugly look to the car.

That car does look stupid, I hope they correct the design before releasing it.

Stupid?? Why?
Infact it looks much better and well proportionate than Tata Nano.
