nice looking suv. nice colour too.

its a scorpio killer. seems with the 140bhp engine it will rocket 0-100 in 14secs if the safari can in 15. seems most spacious of the lot. being a tat means it has to be most comfortable too. wish the rear suspension wernt a leaf spring.

its only 120 bhp. its not supposed to rocket...its a muv. It may be spacious but how is the quality, fit and finish, ride quality? is the body good enough or will start to come off like existing sumo? Are the interiors like existing sumo, like an ST bus?

There are too many unanswered questions before it can be called "scorpio killer"

I am not too hopeful regarding the quality thingie. I have now started to believe, TATA dont have it in them to do it.

Regrettably, I'm also tending to believe this now.
Kindly recall how many avatars the Sumo has been through over the years.

I remember the first Sumo Deluxe. I had one in dark blue color. Power steering, good a/c, etc. How good it felt back in those days! It was comfortable, fast, and was quite good at the nightmarish roads of those times. I hope the Grande is just as good in the present context.

Love the fact that the middle row seats have adjustable reclining position, 3rd row seats will be front facing and the rear AC vents are neatly integrated; all unlike the TATA Safar Dicor 2.2VTT.
Yup, they could have made the 3rd set front facing.

Still prefer Sumo over Qualis when it comes to ride quality.

Sumo Turbo can do 100 plus in 3rd gear.

Tata still has to prove itself for its quality. Mahindra has got better
reputation when it comes to a quality product. Eg. Scorpio. We have to wait
and see whether it can Kill Scorpio ( as some people put it). But i guess
Tata is learning it but slowly as we can see its launching New Sumo, Indica.

I heard about people calling it as Killer Sumo , as it was seen many road accidents. It spoild its reputation here, I hope. Why was it getting a very bad name. I know people afriad to travel in Sumo.
I may be wrong, but was it having big problem with its road control, brakes at high speed?

I think that this "Killer Sumo" thing is wrongly interpreted. With the kind of bulk it has and the kind of people driving it (mostly rash taxi drivers), when a Sumo gets involved in an accident, it is the other vehicle which suffers most. The fatalities would be mostly from the other vehicle but one of the vehicles involved in the accident is a "Killer Sumo". Something similar to "Killer DTC Buses"

The earlier models did have handling issues at high speeds when one takes tight curves. Maybe at that period of time people weren't used to such a big vehicle like Sumo. I still remember what some automags called it...Bread Box. Sumo almost became the number one seller at that period (Omni ruled the market then).

jk, seems you have taken this quite personally. Quite a lot of mentions about the same.

I suspect Tata will start using the Xenon's dashboard on the Sumo grande, basically since both of them share a similar profile/platform, I guess it will be relatively easy.

if the news mentioned in the above link is true, then TATA is probably being hasty in doing so. I suppose the VICTA is already taking care of rural customers..

if they are going to launch a stripped down version of the GRANDE, it will definetly affect individual buyers decision

instead, all they had to do was to make some smart external changes and some good marketing

a few suggestions
1) rear tail light assembly to be made vertical - this can break the monotony of boxy rear
2) add a chunky rear spare wheel suspended from the rear door
3) add some nice side cladding/sticker job to make is less slab sided
