Even if those cabbies get hold of this version, they might sell off 1/2 the parts/accessories and replace it with the stuff from the older Sumo. They'r so used to that rugged thing..

Good looking, nice interiors, definately Sumo Grande is going to dent the Scorpio and Tavera sales.....

Thats because its not a revamped Sumo, but an entirely new model given the tried and trusted 'Sumo' branding.

The have done half a dozen sticker jobs, and refreshing work to the original Sumo which was launched way back in 1994. So, bringing out an entirely new model is very much reasonable.

This car looks quite sophisticated to go with the SUMO tag, with the cab image tagged to SUMO, it will be a little difficult to appeal to an aspiring SUV owner in this side of 10 lakhs.

tifosi.

I totally agree with u dude! The 'sumo' tag in india is associated with a bare bones people mover, and that is something that would appeal to a private buyer .Since the car is so different, i feel tata should have given it a new name. many will have some confusion regarding sumo victa-grande-spacio etc etc. This one will be considered as just another variant and not an all new car, which could seriously impact its sales.

The new SUMO looks beefy. (Vegetarians, please excuse)
Now we have our own Pajero.

Looked awesome on TV too. However, the Qualis has proved that the people-mover segment could care a damn about looks. The things that really matter to this kind of buyer are:

1. Space & Comfort
2. Diesel FE
3. Reliability

I am confident that Tata had addressed these factors, but only some long-term reviews will shed further light.

This vehicle looks awesome. I'm sure it'll put a big dent in the Scorpio sales. Who knows it may also cannabalise some of the 4x2 Safari sales.

The new Sumo looks great. Kudos to Tata for getting it right. They have done a good thing by plonking in the 2.2 Dicor engine into this baby. I wonder how much Safari sales would be affected after this.

A comprehensive review is required since Tats initial batches always have few grmlins here and there.

Anyone know if it will be 4x4 or 4x2?

Just checking if it will have a 4 wheel option or just 2 wheel.

And when is it available for a test drive?

I will either pick up the Grande when it comes out or the Bolero Commando...I think they are about the same price.

If you ask me, its going to hit the LX & EX 4x2 sales; especially because it looks real good & has the same powerplant. How much of the extra 20bhp would the average SUV aspirant be using anyway? However, I don't see them adding the ABS & Airbags & the 4x4 on this one in a hurry as that would kill the Safari completely

IMHO, they could have come up with some other color for the launch vehicle. Orange doesn't really suit it.

Only -ve points I can see are :
- Large front bumper area makes it a look a lil bland.
- Of course, the leaf springs. But I guess it reduces cost.
- Door trims seem to be borrowed from Maruti 800 !! They could have done better.

A much awaited and required changes to the existing model. The existing Sumo was appearing out of place.
