Went to Sundaram and checked out the Captiva. The price was a let down.

Car is not available for TD. the TD car will come in only on 25th Jan.

The car looks very imposing exterior wise and has a very butch stance.

Interiors are of very good quality with lots of cubby holes. The front seats are power operated and can be set to comfortable position. the steering is rake adjustable not reach. Has an onboard trip computer showing general info. Steering mounted audio controls.

The middle row has ample leg room and is very comfy as well. It is reclinable as well. The third row is only for kids.

Shockingly many features are omitted other than the 2WD. No power retractable mirrors, no TCS and ofcourse is only front wheel drive.

The fuel filler cap is not remotely operated and has to be lifted out.

The OTR price here is 21.23L. Currently 24 units have been booked. Each dealer is assigned 6 cars per month. So sundaram said if i book now I get the car in may only.

Will the target market really mind if there is no 4wd (not even an option!)? I doubt it, because a majority of the buyers will be on the backseat with a driver to the hard work.

they told me that the captiva is an all time AWD.i said that its not mentioned anywhere.they said "no sir its an all time AWD"

now this can only be confirmed if someone got a look at the underbelly of the car.

It's a 2WD version launched here. They have that in the India brochure at teh showroom. It's confirmed.

Interiors mixed bag. Not the best of quality plastics in some places. Not very luxurious. The CR-V i like the dash design and quality is a wee bit better. Overall 50-50 between the 2.

U gotta live with a car to understand her better. or atleast drive it around for a couple of days / 200-300kms

The Captiva is a great allrounder. Yeah, the AWD, TCS and other stuff is missing, but there are lotta plus points in the car, which overshadow the above stuff

Engine is superb : u can never make out its a diesel. performance was surprisingly good, good FE for its size, nice looks, good interiors etc. Loved the car. the price, does seem, a lil high, but then runnin(fuel) costs will be 30% less than, say, a CRV

I am not comparing the Captiva with the CR-V, but a simple cost-of-ownership comparision with the Suzuki GV reveals an interesting fact: you can drive roughly 100,000 kms free of cost (fuel) if you go for the GV.

In 4WD, fulltime.

If GV which a fully imported SUV can be sold at 14/15 lakhs you have to ask why CRV and Captiva should be sold at a premium. Its not that there are definitively better or something, only RAV4 breaks away from the pack, the rest of them are more or less the same. The CRV has better interiors while the GV has fulltime AWD.

These SUVs CRV, GV, RAV4, Outlander, Santa FE all cost near about the same in US and European markets. Do we enjoy being taken for a ride or what.

Just compare the specs and on the Vitara and the GV, it would reveal a lot. Not saying CRV is better or GV is VFM. But the CRV sells and anything that sells can afford to ask a premium. In spite of the ridiculous price tag and innumerable issues, the Laura still sells. Captiva has no compitition in the diesel category in its segment and I am sure its more comfortable and faster than the GV.
I just wanna see if it outsells the CRV. The GV hasnt really done well and I assume will not do any good in the near future.

Captiva will soon be joined by Santa Fe. One would want it to be priced sensibly but since its a good SUV, definitely better than Captiva and probably CRV and Vitara I don't expect it be be priced sensibly with the premiums on the others except the Vitara. It will probably be upwards of 20.
