ACI January edition has conducted a spares survey-

They have costs of filters, spark plugs, belts etc. Mechanicals like ac coil, suspension arms etc and accident repair parts like front bumper doors, headlamp, tail-lamp etc.

In the small car segment (Maruti 800- Getz CRDi), the Palio Stile 1.6 has proven to be horribly expensive to maintain. Its almost 2-3 timesexpensive compared to the competition, and is almost equal to entry D-segmenters. Maruti, Hyundai and Chevrolet scored low, while TATA- FIAT has high prices.

From lower mid-size segment (Maruti Esteem- Ford Fiesta) Ford Fusion TDCi has topped the chart. Hyundai, mahindra renault etc has done well, while Chevrolet, Ford etc are high up.

In Upper mid-size segment (Maruti SX4- Optra 1.6)Lancer diesel has come high on prices. Here also Hyundai and Maruti offer the lower prices, while Honda also is high up.

In lower luxury segment (Optra 1.8- Skoda Octavia)Skoda Octavia 1.8 TPi has come highest. Its comparable to entry Mercs. Chevrolet and Toyota are low, while Honda Mitsubishi are high.

Dont think there is use considering the luxury segment (Accord- Porsche Cayman) as they have compared everything from Accord above to the Porsches.

In SUVs(Sumo- Scorpio CRDe) TATA Safari DiCOR has the most expensive spares, and in premium SUVs (grand vitara- Landcruiser prado) Nissan X-Trail.

Quite surprised to know that the Safari tops the list. Dint imagine it to be on the expensive side.

And also surprised to find the Stile 1.6 to be so expensive. That too 2-3 times compared to competition :Shockked:

The rest were on expected lines.

Will pick up the issue as soon as possible, got hit really hard recently, paid 7000 odd each for front bumper and headlight of the stile.

think the volumes on the Palio are too low for spares to be cheap - think this is one of the reasons Maruti/Hyundai do well. hope things improve once the MJD comes out

I think if they'd done a similar survey in December 2005, the Swift might have come out very expensive. I remember being quoted 5500/- for an ORVM back then. was quite a shock coming from 800's and Altos to that - taught me never to buy a car with expensive spares :deadhorse

anyone here think the Fabia might top the small car category next year? judging by the Octavia 1.8 TPI, Skoda seems to have a knack for expensive spares

AFAIK, the ORVM costs Rs. 1500 Bumpers are cheap too. Headlights are a little expensive at around Rs. 3500, but they are huge. Brake pads are expensive at Rs. 3500 or so.

I agree with the 1500/- price currently. AFAIK for the first few months after the launch, they were very expensive. I'm not sure but I remember the bumper being expensive as well - was quoted total 8000/- for a new bumper plus painting. Heard from a friend recently that now its come down a lot.

Cant really be sure whether this was due to MUL or the dealers charging a premium.

Could also be due to mass production. Swift is selling more than they can make these days.

How does the chevy U-VA fare in the survey. Going by the low volumes theory, it's spares should also be on the expensive side.

just got the front suspension of the siena 1.6 replaced...each shock costs 3000 while the a-arm costs 2300.

Going by the volumes theory, the Maruti Versa should have expensive spares. But according to the survey, it has the lowest parts costs in its segment.

Volumes theory is all crap, for example, some parts of Palio Stile are expensive coz they are imported!

The earlier Palio NV models was highly localized, so the parts were quite cheaper.

Any links / pointers to the survey results? Available on line?

How about Tavera? How does it do in its segment?

The bonnet costs 15,610.95 which is higher than what Skoda charges for its most expensive Superb!

Do you mean to tell that the body panels are also imported?

IIRC someone had posted that the Stile headlamps costs 16k for a pair and it only comes in pair..:Shockked:
