But then you would not get your name in the newspapers.

Reminds me a bit of a chap who made the papers after he claimed he had invented a LPG or CNG powered genererator. I had seen gas powered generators in a local town 2 years before he claimed he had invented it. But it gave him a bit of publicty.

I think this is the age factor among boys to be coming up with cheap cars, younger the age the cheaper the car

16 year old = 25,000 Rs car (Chandan Kumar)

62 year old = 100,000 Rs car (Ratan Tata, four times Chandans age)

what next??

A toddler = Free car??

Hats off to this kid, obviously the "Car" he built is at best will be a "barely working prototype" in terms on safety/emission/build etc, but efforts and initiative is commendable.

Putting a car together just does not involve 4 wheels ,a gear box and an engine. I could do that with a lawn mower engine and cycle tyres. The protoype may have cost the boy 25,000 because they were cannibalised from other places.Production models would cost atleast 2 to 3 times that price.

Age factor = 72/14=5 (rounded off)
Price factor = 1.2lakhs(Tata himself said so)/25k = 5(approx)

The Maths works out again.

On a serious note, congos kiddo. We hope to see the car industry revved up in coming years.cheers:

Just a question... How many manufacturers selling products in India or the ARAI publish crash tests?? We have no transparency in such cases...

Thats because Indians dont like safety. Improving safety means increasing the cost, weight of the car thus lowering mileage. Thats what happened to Palio, it was a good car, very safe but Indians prefer mileage and thats why Indians preferred other cars over Palio. If given a choice between airbags or additional safety features in car and a music system, most of Indians will opt for music system

Congratulations to chandan for the outstanding feat, hope his dream of manufacturing the car for Rs.25,000 becomes a reality just like Ratan Tata's dream coming true. Even after the production costs are levied and the car is sold at rs 50,000/- it will be a big competitor with the NANO.

We do have to congratulate the Boy for his achievement/perseverance. How many children, at this age are lost when it comes to a simple science project for school. Khudos to him for having the vision to go about assembling a vehicle. The true spirit of DIY.
