In the days that were, this was the car that spelt royalty. It was one of the most powerful, spacious, safest and sturdiest cars. Production- 1982-2002.
Based on a 1967-1972 Vauxhall Victor, which sported a 3300cc V6.

The Contessa sported only a 4 cylinder 1.8 petrol, for its time was a muscle car of sorts, for, at the time the P padmini's, Amby's had little hearts compared to it, and the period...most refer to it as the sudershan period.

Notch backs: Arent they the sedan'ish cars who's rear wind sheild raises with the boot when the boot is opened?

ALL car body styles.

saar, i think you got confused with a retractable hard-top.

Quote:
A convertible is a car body type with a folding or retracting roof (aka 'soft top' or 'top' in USA, 'hood' in UK).

The collapsible roof section is typically made from flexible canvas or vinyl over an articulated folding frame, although rigid plastic, aluminium, and steel.

When the top is made of a rigid material such as steel it is often referred to as a retractable hardtop instead of a convertible.

Convertibles are also known as cabriolets, drophead coupe and another variant: Carson top

EDIT:

14. Roadster.

It is not a convertible, there is a slight difference - roadster doesnt have roof(permanently)

15. Targa Top. (the 911 are famous targa tops), variant: T-Top ( i always wish to have one of these)

16. Phaeton

17. Spyder
(lighter version of pheaton, source:wiki)

variants of SUV: crossover, mini SUV and compact SUV(not to confuse with mini SUV)

18. RV

ALL the styles:

Usage of the Words Sedan and Saloon to describe Cars, Jeeps other Vehicles

On many threads on Team BHP and indeed in some car mags I find that people refer to cars with boots as saloons and hatchback cars sometimes as sedans. Wonder why!

Now I may be wrong but I was always given to understand that Cars with Dicky's and Boots are called Sedans - the usage originated from those old "sedan" chairs in which the erstwhile aristocracy used to be carried about as far as I know.

With todays classifications of cars, one has Hatchbacks like the humble Maruti right upto the Fabia - these are saloon cars.

Then Notchbacks like Ford Ikon, Verna, Indigo CS etc.

Then Sedans like Accent, Esteem, etc

Then Estate cars/ Station Wagon type (Shooting Brakes as they were known in the old days) like Octavia Combi, Opel Swing, maybe even the Fiat Adventure and Tata Marina etc.

And funnily enough on my RC book of the Scorpio the vehicle is classified as Body Type SALOON - though it is an SUV. (Technically though they may not be that far out because in fact it is a large saloon!)

Therefore, guys, do please share your thoughts on this and correct me if I am wrong.
