Wow!

This is great news if its true. I'm not surprised though at Tata for doing this, they have left everyone dumbfounded with their vehicle launches.

ABS + Airbags at 15K premium is great and I hope Tata doesn't succumb to pressure to still give either one of these as an option. A greater percentage of the Indian public would still leave out these safety options if given the choice.

Making them as standard is a great move, they can also now claim to make the safest cars in India, on par with cars sold in the developed world.

It will be interesting to see what the other car makers like Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Maruti do if Tata can pull this of.

All it would take is an ad campaign that shows car crashes with and without Airbags and ABS to get close to 100% customers opting for them.

It is good that a manufacturer is finally taking these features seriously. I believe the 15K premium is a bit optimistic; it would be around 30K.

It is time manufacturers also add an ABS cutoff switch in their vehicles, at least in SUVs. It is very simple technically, but some nanny legislation might prevent this feature being offered. One can still remove the ABS fuse when off-roading.

It's really good move by the TATAs.

It would be great if they can allow existing vehicles on road also be retrofitted with these features.

I'm VERY skeptical about the 15k too - Airbags cost a lot of money. If Tata have managed to bring down this cost then they can make money by supplying other automakers too.

Or was it that we were all being taken for a ride about the real cost of Airbags?

ABS alone at 15K as optional on every variant would be GREAT !!!

I paid approximately 18K for ABS on my Santro almost 2 years back. Either Tata is going to make a loss at 15k for both Airbags and ABS or Hyundai took me for a ride.

Tata is making a profit on Nano even after 1L dealer price(around 6% profit for Tata).
Trust them to come out with innovative ways of cutting pricing.

My guess is that you will be able to get an indica DLS with abs and airbags by paying 15000 extra.

You, of all people, dont need either ABS or airbags. The cars around you will serve to bring your Sumo to a dead halt flattening themselves in the process thus negating any ABS requirement, while the industrial-strength construction of the Sumo ensures no impact is ever transmitted to the driver's cabin to need airbags.

Hmmm 15K is a little too low. I guess for both airbags and abs it would be atleast 25K.
