Versions launched and discontinued!

Was browsing through a site to check on new car's price. I was astonished when I read that Ford has discontinued 12 versions of Fiesta (1.4 and 1.6).

Dont you think this itself shows how they are struggling to sell a product. Orions, Anniversary, what not when they has the old Escort.

1) Wont this hit the resale value of the car?
2) Wont this hurt loyalty?
3) Who else is playing a game like this? ( Emm, Maruti does it with its M800 and Alto)

Even Hyundai had the same type with the Accent, there was the Accent Toronado and then Accent limited, Accent ViVa and CRDi and now just the Accent GLE.

totally agree with you on this on.but i think it is a part of branding.
giving different names to the different variants (and adding some features).

1)the resale is not affected IMO,thats because the model of the car has not changed, there are only some cosmetic changes
2)dont know whether it hurts loyality or not::matter of personal opinion

3)each and every manufacturer is playing this game

Well,

Most of Ford's discontinued variants were Limited editions (i'm guessing) along with the 1.6 ZXI for the Fiesta.
It will not affect the resale in any way and shouldn't hurt loyalty as well.

12 variants of only two petrol engines!! Are you serious! If thats the way Ford goes about launching their special editions, it will be the regular Fiestas that end up rarer.

hey jk,
when did maruti start this with m-800 and alto.alto had a limited edition variant which has stoped but nothing in m-800 series.the only issue is that for a limited edition whenever we have to replace something which was comming in the car as an extra we would face availablity issues.i remember wagon r had a variant called prime which had beige interior.that is also stopped now.for is the worst considering this aspect.hyundai had stopped accent but for gle which gives good numbers to them .so no point in stopping it and completely leaving that segment to others to play with.

Have seen M800 in different colors and sticker jobs with funky names. And Alto has a version called Fun or so.

ARe you sure they are 12 versions of the FIESTA. Probably it should be 12 versions on the same platform. Or probably it could be a world wide variant that you are talking about. Cant think if 12 variants in INdia.

Just a thought. Ford has lauched limited editions whenever tehy were planning the phase out the model.
WIth Escort they had
The Orion
The Anniversary Edition

With Ikon they had
-An anniversary edition i guess
- and An SXi variant was lauched towards the end of the ikon 1.6 era

With the ENdeavour they lauched
- A Club Edition with new bull bars just before they lauched the new engine and new look model

With Fiesta they are now into a few editions. I think they must be planning a face lift pretty soon.

The LXi and VXi were launched simlutaneously, but the VXi was later discontinued. The Limited edition Alto your talking about is the xFun with body coloured wheels =
