1) In the given price range an Van is something Indian market really needs. Innova is very good, but cost is also high. There are many prospective buyers like you that are looking forward to these cars in given price range.
In Rs. 4-6 lakh range what Indian market needs is :
a) A van.
b) A small SUV.

2) The older Versa or rather versa came with G13BB from Esteem. Yes, the same motor that was available in Esteem and in Swift. IIRC, for Versa they tried to tune it more towards better bottom end and the motor produced around 82 bhp.

The new van is expected to come with K12M, the motor from Ritz. A nice move, but the best would be plonking a diesel that Maruti currently produces.

if the car/van/MUV has to come for anywhere near 4 lakh ex showroom price, it has to be the face lifted and possibly a cut down Versa with K12 engine.

It is under 4 meters and under 1200cc petrol engine - saves tax
It should seat 8 people - saves tax (people mover category)
It should use existing components for body parts, mechanicals - saves cost
If the Versa was on a different chassis than the Swift/DZire or WagonR, it has to come into one of them - saves cost
Sliding doors cost more and a normal door can save cost
Bench seats (as if the Versa had any better) instead of bucket seats at the rear two rows

Hope this comes on 14" wheels

A CNG and possibly a Diesel option might come in after an year. And, if a Diesel can come for max 6L on road, then it is gonna rock n roll the sales charts.
