How do you all see the upcoming budget with respect to auto industry?

There was a report on CNN-IBN that SIAM has asked for a uniform excise duty of 16% for all passenger cars. As India's No.1 automotive board, I am of opinion that we too can contribute/pressurise (signed petition?) the finance ministry into making that decision.

It will be a 'feel-good' budget as polls are nearing. Wouldnt be a bad time to do this.

I dont think much will happen big cars less duties looks unlikely as this would be a election year budget a populist budget where buying a big car is a sin even though these politician and there kids own all of the Bentleys and the Lexus and s classes of the world they will not put taxes down so even after paying taxes we have to pay more taxes to buy a SX4 or a Honda city or civic

Isnt there another thread with the same topic?

New Delhi, Feb. 12 Home loans and financing for consumer durables such as cars, televisions and refrigerators could come on easier terms. The Union Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram, on Tuesday advised the chief executives of public sector banks (PSBs) to focus attention on delivering adequate credit for home loans and consumer durable sectors, stating that these two sectors were drivers of economic growth.

This is from Today's Business line Newspaper under the heading "Chidambaram signals more credit for housing, consumer durables".

There is talk of some sops for green cars. Let's hope that happens and makes imported hybrids more affordable.
