Went to a stall organised by Grace Toyota in faridabad.
As per them Toyota is launched LC next month as CKD, and Altis diesel with a 1.4 litre diesel engine next year. He also said that Avanza is also going to come soon to India with the same Innova D4D diesel and VVt-i petrol engine.
Seems too good to be true but he said that Toyota is planning more dealerships in NCR and the next 18 months would be power packed from Toyota India.

Hi All,

I have spotted Toyota fortuner on Outer ring road in Marathahalli towards KR Puram couple of hours back. As I was rushing to Masjid and missed out a golden oppurtunity to take snaps inside out, though I managed to cpature a snap and a small video. Sorry for the bad image quality my HTCP3300 cam is good for nothing.

by the pics im guessing there are 2 diesel fortuners being tested here(only diesels have hood intake). So its basically pointless testing the same engine on 2 different cars.
so im guessing they testing the 2.5 diesel which is shared with the innova and the 3.0 Diesel also.Probably 3 engine options will be available on launch 3.0D,2.5D,2.7 V6 petrol.

P.S this is only my speculation

I doubt the 2.5D 105bhp engine will pull this mammoth. If you look at the weight this one is close to 2tonnes.

the 3.0D is only 165bhp which itself is supposed to be no great shakes for performance.

One of the local Toyota dealers was promoting Innova in our office campus. During the chat, the executive mentioned that they have already started taking bookings (50K) for Fortuner...He was not very sure about the launch dates but claims to be within 2-3 months.

Taking booking with no clear picture when the model will be launched. Surely making fool or Dealer is taking booking for themself. This is crazy. I had a word this morning with service GM here in Delhi he said Sept-Oct is the period when they will launch around 18-20 L Bracket.

Find the rear very Innova-ish! And overall like the Safari! The C pillar too wide!

Fortuner has had pretty impressive reviews everywhere it sells. Should be terrific; have seen some in Bangkok and Singapore and they do look imposing -- big, tall and meancing. The price is a bummer, though. Slightly more han the relative price in most other markets, where I think, the Fortuner sells about 60% more than Innova, but since it going to be imported, I guess that raises the price even more in India. Wonder why they are'nt manufacturing it here, since it shares a lot with the Innova (same project).

It might seem so, but it doesnt, it looks pretty macho and has a great road presence. It actually looks more like an Hilux with an after market fitted cover for the loading area. The looks are fantastic enough to drool for. To me it looked far better than the Endy, CRV or the likes, but then the beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

Toyota Fortuner & Toyata Hilux pick-up are all based upon the Innova platform, thus they share a lot in common. When Fortuner was introduced in Dubai market a lot was expected, but the 2.7 VVT-i petrol engine failed to impress the customers, but the Innova with the same engine is in good demand.

the MD of a Toyota dealership claims the first few vehicles will hit showroom floors by July itself. It wasn't clear if these will be display/test drive cars or for sale.

I dont know how much tall is this SUV. I think its less than 1900mm, but the pictures are telling a different story.
Might be more than 1950mm.

About engines, I wonder how Toyota became no.1 in the world. Their diesels are quite weak except the V8 in Landcruiser. That unit itself is 2 2231 cc Auris in line 4 cylinder units combined.

Modern 3 ltr. from Audi/BMW put out around 80 bhp/ltr. We can expect around 70 bhp/ltr. These 160 horses cannot pull this brick beyond 140 with ease. The 2.5 is absolutely rubbish for this car. Even in Innova, after 120 the progress slows down and one can feel the lack of grunt from Innova.

How can it haul a car weighing 2 tons. Innova is around 15XXkg. Around 450 kg more mass and this engine cannot do duty.
May be they are putting in newer generation injection system with a new tubro charger to put out around 150bhp, then this motor can be just about OK for Fortuner.

I expect 2.5l 150-160 bhp with 40 kgm of torque and 3.0l with arond 220 bhp and 48 kgm for torque. Otherwise this car will be slower than even Endy.
