Ford India introduces new Fiesta line-up with ABS, DRIVER AIRBAG, 1.6 ZXI and more

source: Ford India introduces new Fiesta line-up- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

NEW DELHI: Ford India, a unit of US-based Ford Motor Co, on Wednesday introduced a new line-up of its mid-size sedan Fiesta at a starting price of Rs 5.93 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The base variant of the line-up would come up at a premium of Rs 5,500 over the earlier base variant of the car.

The company has replaced its mid-end 1.4 ZXI with a more powerful 1.6litre ZXI variant. The three variants have been priced at Rs 5.93 lakh, Rs 6.2 lakh and Rs 6.9 lakh for 1.4 EXI, 1.6 ZXI and 1.6 SXI respectively, the company said in a statement.

Ford has also upgraded the diesel line-up of the car, Fiesta Duratorq. The three diesel-powered variants would be sold at Rs 7.03 lakh, Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 8.09 lakh for 1.4 EXI, 1.4 ZXI and 1.4 SXI respectively.

"Fiesta has been recognised by various automobile experts for its performance, stability, manoeuvrability and control, qualities that are most sought after by those who are passionate about cars and driving," Ford India vice-president, Marketing, Sales and Service Scott McCormack said in the statement.

The new Fiesta line-up (both petrol and diesel) would have driver-side Air Bag turn Indicators on Outside rearview mirror as standard fitments.

The top-end variants would also sport ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), 6CD changer with 6 speakers, leather upholstery, key-less entry, electric boot release and driver side height adjustment.

Driver-side Airbag standard across all models is Welcome, wish ABS was standard too!

I guess Car makers in India are getting safety conscious, credit to Maruti for taking this intitative by offering it in SX4.

Does this mean you get a 1.6 with goodies at the price of the earlier 1.4?

If yes, its a great move.

No passenger side airbag even in the SXi? Are Airbags in reality so costly? I think it's a very cheap way of resorting to cost cutting by ford. But, turn indicators on side view mirrors is a first in the C segment.

In all a good move by Ford. Now I can say that the competition is hotting up. Just do something about the ugly panel gap between the bonnet and the grill

too late. They are waking up to DZIRE diesel launch now? From what we heard here, DZIRE will be at least 1 lakh cheaper and will run all over this car.

Fiesta is a great car, but (esp the diesel) terribly overpriced. It sold coz there was no competition.

These developments are a welcom sign. IIRC, they did a similar thing with ikon too. There were two variants of 1.3 at some point of time, but later only one.

Does the reduction of variants give way to newer models??

They should have also included the FUSION in the list to get those new features as it shares lot of parts with the fiesta.

But still why cant they give the ABS as an option to other variants?

raj.

Airbags are a good move. Though they can give for passenger too! Invariably in India there will be more than 1 person in the car and mostly it will be the front passenger! In some countries there will be may be single driver in the car most of the times! So it is not a very good move for India to have just one airbag though the trend is welcome.

Are turn indicators in the rear view mirror that useful. IMO they can be broken easily in our crowded cities. As it is many people drive with folded mirrors!

I saw a ford fiesta fully covered with black tapes all over doing test drives. Couldn't get any picture as it zipped past us very fast! May be they are still working on bringing in more variants and new engines too! Who knows!

So true!

I do not fold my mirror and always use it (one of the good effect of learning driving in Dubai!). Today morning while on the way to office, one &*&*^&^*^ guy in a pulsar banged his handle on the mirror and broke the casing.

that ^&^***%%^^ never even bother to have a second look, he just drove off. what to do, some peoples brains are just not grown as much their physical body!
