I guess the announcement for a 2007 end launch was made in September 07 itself. In fact I saw one on Airport road, Bangalore a couple of days back (with an Embassy registration). The vehicle looks fabulous. A good competitor to the Audi Q7 or the Cayenne. I guess that prices start from Rs. 39 lakhs

@ Monaro- Intuitive driving is somewhat similar to INVECS - intelligent and adaptive automatic transmission system. What the manual describes is somewhat like the system memorises the pattern of gear shifts that driver usually does in specific driving conditions. This may depend upon the load, kind of road and terrain that various sensors in the system may detect apart from throttle inputs and probably application of brakes and on road speeds.
Later once the optimum level of learning is achieved( sufficient data is available), the automatic transmission mode also drives the car in somewhat similar fashion.

Have you ever tried voice recognition- specially dictation ( speech to text) softwares? If yes then perhaps you have already understood - how you do initial voice training.
This is how Mitsubishi described INVECS and may hold true for all intelligent and adapative auto tranny controls , unless Volvo has some more artificial intelligence based on visual cues or brainwaves!!

@srh and @manziee_crusier: are you sure you spotted the XC90, and not the XC70?

@akshay1234: One XC70(brownish) is frequently seen around Indira Nagar/Airport Road/Whitefield. That is why i was asking. Sorry, I dont have pics.
Ok, I found a pic of an XC70 online, which looks like the one i have seen in Bangalore. Its at least a generation previous to the one found on the current Volvo Cars Indian website.
You can see it at this link

Cheers

PS: Yet to figure out how to post pics

These have been on sale in Delhi for about 4-5 months. Great Machines if you ask me, good road presence & understated. Very European. Though I have not driven it, but my friend who has, told me that the 4.4L 315 Bhp was a wonderful machine, but not as good as his Petrol BMW X5 which is also a 4Litre + engine. (I think that was a biased comment)

The 185 Bhp Diesel is a base version & the 315 Bhp is the top end version. To me the Diesel makes more sense. Afterall 185 Bhp is not short on any count UNLESS compared to a more powerful petrol sibling :-)

Not many of them on the road yet, but I think this segment does not grow overnight !!!

Cheers

Decent SUV, but faces the same problem as the Volvo S80. It is priced about the same as its more distinguished competitors. Another problem with the Volvo brand is the "bus" image that they have built over the years.

The 4.4L is sourced from Yamaha, its a brilliant engine, I drove an S80 with the same engine and it felt fantastic, unlike any other V8 from Mercedes or BMW. Its a very versatile SUV with a usable rear row, my friend bought one in the states for his wife. IMO its best in class.

Brilliant SUV at this money. No other SUV offers this much at 40 odd lacs.
