And i was told 2010, so late 2009 would eventually trickle to 2010 and would be a completely different model than what they showcased at AutoExpo!

..Maybe they are hoping that by then the Indian market would have matured enough for the premium hatches...

Surely applied to the last generation. Not only did the Euro Accord look better, but it also had more driver appeal. Do you remember how we loathed (on Formula India) Honda's decision to sell the American Accord in India? From hearsay, research clinics showed a massive preference toward the American Accord. Not surprising, considering its bloated size and relative bling factor.

It seems that Honda agrees on the Euro Accord being superior. They launched it as a premium priced Acura in the States!

Excise duty on hybrids have been cut. Looks like the Honda Civic hybrid could cost a wee bit lesser. Though its not gonna be manufactured in India !

@shuvd - the current gen accord is a really amazing car and is pretty good for highway travel, provided you do not speed. At high speeds, the car really feels unstable and scary.
Hope the new accord is better in that aspect.

Will there be a VTEC option on the jazz with the civic's paddleshifts.

That would be a great proposition in city traffic. Happened to see the new version of the Jazz in Thailand recently. Very popular down there with every other small car being a Jazz.

140 - 150 kph, above which the Accord doesn't feel very well planted.

Sorry to go OT again.
After reading the above quoted posts I am . Now does that mean, that Accord is not a good car to drive at high speeds(on highways) or is the car lighter as compared to the power generated by the engine. IMO the cars' low ground clearance would ideally make it more stable on high speeds.
Experts please clarify the doubts.

But personally, for 20 lakhs I would expect the 225 bhp type-R (K20A)
The engine on the Malaysian Civic isn't the K20Z2... It is the R20A, a stroked version of the 1.8l R18A we have on the Indian Civic. This 2.0 SOHC unit produces close to 149 horses as opposed to the K20Z2 which produces 155 horses. The entire K-series of Honda engine are DOHCs, including K24 on the 4-cylinder Accord, whereas the R-series has been specifically developed for South East Asian Market running on a SOHC. The R20A also powers the FWD CR-V 2.0.

Just in case you need a source:

guys..please don't be fooled by the civic sports in the picture. its just the normal civic 1.8v with official honda civic body skirts(already available in india) and type r alloys. but can't say about release of on actual civic sport, if it is going to be launched than it would have to be the type R, nothing else. but still 20 might be a bit more if not much, but if priced between 16 - 18 lac. it would really rock..man. Type R looks and feels just awesome.

Update: The Accord 08 and Civic Hybrid will be launched within two months. The latest Honda newsletter - Haute Wheels (awful name) - has a letter from the Takedagawa, the Honda India MD, saying this. The issue was dated April.
