Tata Indica : 0 - 100 under 8 seconds, 180 kph+, 7500 rpm

You got that right. Shocked?

Found this claim on Tatas website. Apparently reported from 2 years back...they intended to introduce these performance kits to the public.

Yes i remember this,

But nothing seems to have materialised so far...Its typical of tata to delay stuff. 0-100 in 8 seconds, man that could give even the RS a run for its money.

On the downside (if this kit is ever produced), we all know how reckless the indicas (cabs) plying on our highways are already with just 53bhp....imagine the havoc they would create if these drivers were given 100bhp to play with.

Possible, coz i'd read in an old mag that the fastest tested Premier Padmini was capable of hitting 100 in 10 secs.

But tell you what, i'll be surprised the day my neighbour's car does this.

If they can do it, hats off to TATA and if they can't, that's life.

Drifty, these don't sound like 100bhp cars. 0-100 in under 8 sec, we're talking close to 150 bhp.

Poonawala's TC city with around 120-130bhp did 100 in 7.9 secs. And these cars weigh much more than that.

And, if these cars really existed, why don't we see them in any off the drags? I'm sure they would have taken the 1400 cc title.

Speaking of prototypes, i heard that the Scorpio test vehicles had around 200 bhp on them. My cousin was lucky enuf to see these vehicles fly by his Cielo, when he was doing 150kmph.

I think manufacturers usually start with the xtremes and then work on making that vehicle, road worthy. Sadly, by the time these vehicles hit the roads, they're not even half as powerful as their test siblings.

So, it's not that hard to believe that the Indica can infact do a sub 8 sec time. But bringing that car into production will be harder than, Bugatti launching the Veyron with 1000 bhp.

if that happens that would make a awesome car,i read in aci some years ago that indica sport is being devoloped that had suspension tuned from experts from lotus uk,the car they wrote about had a altogether different character be it looks or handling but that indica sport project seems to be aborted by tata. tata has a good history of projects being aborted look in the case of magna and the new tata sierra.

If theres anyone who can pull something like this off, its Tata! The only Indian company with such comprehensive R&D facilities.

Hes the one who offered "most car per rupee". For the image boost alone, I dont see why he cant offer the "most bhp per rupee" now.

mahindra guys were right to strip off all that 200 bhps to just 109,the scorpio with current setup feels burdened to handle even 109bhp power,at 200bhp it would have been a suicide trap.

Tata was working on an Indica sport a few years ago. Prototype was done by J Anand of Coimbatore.

I saw a few initial proto's at one of the Hill Climbs at Nandi Hills Bangalore about 3 years ago.

When I see him next, will ask him about this project!

Ya do ask him. Infact, if this news was from 2 years ago. They should have atleast made the INRC 0 and 00 Indicas that powerful. Even those cars, in complete rally trim are way behind the Esteems, let alone the Balenos and Vtecs.

Great News but i don't blame TATA for not taking this up seriously. Question is who will buy it? The car will be costly and Indians will ultimately look at it as a hatchback. Indians are the most difficult customers. Everyone wants a Mercedes at Maruti 800 prices here! If we were more mature the why indica, we would have cars like Golf GTi, Stilo Abarth etc etc.

I've alwyas said that the Indica (with some mods) will easily win the title of the most sporty looking car ever made by an indian manufacturer! And with all this power it'd not only look sporty but also perform in a sporty manner! I'd love to see a 100bhp Indica!!!!
