BTW how good is teh Tdi wrt the 1.8 TPi? A friend of mine is considering the Tdi auto after my expereinces (with my driver and a valet). A Tdi would reduce the chances of some frustrated chauffer wrecking the car.

A friend and I actualy saw the valet at a local 5 Star loose control on a black RS. It might be the turbo is gentle compared to other turbos but i guess these valets are so used to the TDi they dont expect performance from what looks like a regular Octavia.

tdi auto is very sluggish, the manual option is a lot lot better and with all the torque available at hand its so much more comfortable to push in traffic.

Well, one appeals to the right foot, the other to the wallet. However, with a bit of tinkering (and money ofcourse), the TDi can appeal to both.

If only they sold the TDi with RS front seats....

I thought of that too, but the price would not make it worthwhile.

Not yet. Running D2's on the stock steel rims.

Never had a problem in the city. Maybe you should slow down BEFORE the carbreakers first

However, it has scrapped its sump gaurd a few times on village roads, but nothing to worry about.
