San Storm To Get Engine Upgrade?

i just heard from one of the guys that manufactures the san storm that it will get an engine upgrade end this year or early next year. it will be a 115bhp 1.6l renault engine. the body is supposed to be 780kg so it seems that it will be pretty quick. has anyone else heard anything like this?

Will be great if they think of coming with a hard top model and new look headlights/tail lights, front/rear bumpers.
Buying an open top car doesn't make sense at all, atleast in this part of the country!

Any idea on the price? I think this is a car only for the high heeled youngster. India is a country where people have M800 as their family car. Add to that the sunburns you get in an open top. Just isn't practical in India.

They'd be well advised to take care of fit & finish and quality levels first

115 bhp on a 780kg car sound good, with the hard top, that car has a good chance to sell more. never seen one in the south though.

yes that must be done

for 5.2lacs ex showroom it must follow certain quality codes
given a better engine is a good step foreward but i really dont know what to comment on its future

it is indeed very affordable as a second car,as its in a same price range as getz and swift
and if they take care of certain things they can certainly sell decent,if not high numbers of this car

It could very well become the 'Indian Miata',if things are done right this time.
115bhp is good!! And a hard-top at that, makes it even better.

The unique thing about San Storm is its open top / convertible. My mother and sister both feel sick inside car and I often have to drive them and off late I am so confused which open vehicle/ soft top / convertible suits.

Gypsy, some options in Mahindra Bolero/ Commander and then San Storm is the only answer( read in budget). Would love to look at Beemers 6 series but then 60 lakhs plus is unaffordable.

There are already so many cars with similar / better engines and San Storm should retain its USP at least as an option- may be even if it looks like rich boys toy- it still sells. Good to hear this engine upgrade news and may be sooner or later I can at least consider this while going for next purchase and I am sure couple of other friends here too may agree.

By the way anyone else here has ever faced a similar problem? will appreciate any input on how to resolve this problem. I tried / tested a car with sunroof but it didnt help the matter only option then remains to try - is a full sun roof ( sliding) or a convertible but I am very uncomfortable ( when I imagine) driving a low stance car/ vehicle in city. Just imagine you are standing next to a bus waiting for the signal to go green and then someone throws something out of the window/ spits. yuk.

Good that they are getting new heart for their cars.It should have done better if the quality of interior was a bit better.Hope this is the first fresh move by them to revive lost ground in sales.

Always wished to see a good affordable convertible car in India.
Hopefully this is the first step forward in that direction.

Sigh....everything BUT the engine was wrong with the San Storm. And they decide to change only the engine. The build quality of this car is outright horrible. Even my local pappuwala garage could do a better job, given the parts.

Linky : Our previous experience with the Storm.

Interesting. Their website has been "under maintenance" for the six months or so!
