Hi Guys:
Check out whois.com Enter fiat-india in the box provided.
Here is the result. The site is registered till May 2005 and by
Fiat Italy.

Anyways no stupid hosting company says the site is blocked due to
non payment for 1 year. They cancel the subscription the instance
the site payment is due and not paid.
Just because the domain is registered until may 2005 does not mean that the hosting is also paid for till may 2005. They are two entirely independent transactions.

And yes, there are many hosting companies which will make public your non-payments. Do you think anyone would care enough to hack the website of a company that is barely selling 250 cars a month? What damage could it possibly create, that Fiat hasnt already done onto itself.

I agree with GTO here. In fact, it might not even be the hosting company. Hosting won't cost even $100 a year. It might be the company that designed and created the website whose bills are unpaid.

no matter what, any corporate entity would not take such a lazy and neglected approach towards its website.

This means, either Fiat is not serious about its operations in India or they have completely underestimated power and reach of Internet in the country and thus do not understand the country cosumer where they claim is their important destiation

sad really,

today, more than ever, i think that all fiat customers are net based - after chatting on forums and checking websites...

who else will buy a fiat car - given that there is no presence anywhere?

fiat guys are really clueless about the power of the net!!!

I don't think the net is all that powerful in India when it comes to buying a car. A prospective buyer may chat, log onto discussion forums and websites etc etc but ultimately he will talk to mr.X who lives in the last corner building in his housing society. Since Mr.X's father in law's friend's cousin brother's dog has a palio and doesn't like it, the prospective buyer will decide not to buy the Palio after all.

you are right there amit,

the general public is clueless about most things and decisions are arbitrary - or more so based on 'if it is selling like hot cakes, it must be good'

my point is that today, the few people who are net based buyers - and who are probably keeping fiat in biz (like me) - the net becomes an important medium. at least fiat can survive doing basic things right - like having a website...and at least a few net based buyers will not be driven away when they go to fiat india.com and find some sad message on the title page.

it will help keep fiat in biz till they come up with a plan of sale for the future...but if they are clueless - and the customer is clueless ---- god help fiat...

Totally agree with you cream. I have never understood what funda or logic fiat is having doing business in India. They have always had the best cars in the respective segments. Even the Uno was better then Zen, Santro etc but they murdered it. Why are they hell bent on committing suicide?

After screaming it out from the rooftops of how commited they are to the Indian market, Fiat - India finds it website ( www.fiat-india.com ) pulled off the net. Reason - Unpaid bills since one year!

This is one company that deserves to die. I mean, how careless and aloof could a mega-car company possibly be? First they lose their customers, then their dealerships (Shaman) and now their website hosting.

GTO
I saw this thread just now. Maybe the site was hosted by vsnl or so last yr and now the domain reg. and sort stuffs that was done by vsnl is now done by a mumbai based company who aint reliable when it comes to expiry of sites/domains. This may have been the problem with Fiat.
