i went to fiat.com.it is the website of the parent company.
okay...even i went to the same site.
guys,
i think fiat will live on - in india and worldwide.
i have just booked the palio d. have been in touch with one of their sales managers mr. uplanchi - who speaks with confidence of the future of fiat in india - most importantly, he has invited me over for lunch at the fiat factory to check things out! - will take up his offer tomorrow or the day after and keep u guys posted.
i think, selling is a vision of understanding one's strengths and having confidence in the products that you sell.
honda - the NHC - doesn't make excuses for being an ugly looking car with lower performance than it's older brother- rather it prides itself on being radically designed and extremely comfortable.
i think fiat have also to get into positive mode - their advt campaigns are all wedded towards fuel economy and diesel petras. the fact remains that these are not the strengths of the fiat cars - but there are many others - ride, handling, comfort, safety etc. i am sure, if fiat starts highlighting these aspects, people will come to check the cars out.
they should altogether forget about the FE factor - at least in their advertising - and when a potential buyer tries to find out about the FE, he would be pleasantly surprised that the palio1.2 gives a healthy 10-11 kmpl in city with ac. the same as the other competitors - getz, wagor r and santro.
concentrate on and highlight your strengths, i say - and when customers realise that the rest isn't so bad either, they will seriously start considering the fiats..
for 1, i hope that fiat stays on, for the sake of all car fans, there's really nothing that compares to the little wonder - the palio - and i have purchased this car, in spite of all adversity (from family and friends) - i am sure there will be more like me - and we will keep fiat going till they get their right direction and focus.
on a positive note, the fiat panda 4x4 is the european car of the year 2004, their new multijet diesel engines are being sold to suzuki and gm - so even though sales may not be on a high worldwide - things will improve!

Firstly, Congrats on ur new purchase. A good decision. And welcome to the Fiat family.
Please ask mr. Uplanchi if I can join you guys for the lunch :) And yea, please tell him and everyone at fiat about team-bhp.com. I am sure they will get many ideas on good marketing from here. Specially tell the Italians about this site! IF possible Kick their backsides :)
I am sure not a single team-bhpian wants fiat to pull out of India. In fact, Fiat has a huge fan following here and almost all of us will be pained and saddened to see them go. You must have noticed that there is a huge respect for the Palio and Petra over here and also among other car buyers. I have a Palio and so many of my friends have been floored after riding in it. In fact, some of them go round recommending the palio to others now!
Lastly, please ask the guy you are gonna meet if fiat plans to re-launch the 1.6 GTX. And what about Panda, idea and the multi-jet diesels? hell, so many questions! why not just ask him if i can come to!
i think fiat should pack bags ......or else get a crash course on management and think better wayz to woow the indian market
Cream,
While I agree with you on the superiority of the products and what they should highlight in their advertisements, you are merely suggesting ways to get the customers in on product attributes.
Well, the customers WERE in the showroom during the initial days. Palios were selling more than 3000 cars a month soon after launch. Its what happened after, in terms of support from the dealerships and the manufacturer, that turned the customers away. Image and Word of mouth are the most powerful / detrimental tools in India.
GTO
To quote from the article that Samurai provided
Quote:
But Ravi Bharadwaj, commercial director, Fiat India says confidently, ?The Petra is a completely new car. We never had a 1,900 cc diesel engine in the C-segment.?
|
Has he lost his mind? Does he know anything about cars? Or is he deliberately trying to mislead the press (and in turn the reader base)?
Merely plonking the Palios diesel engine does not make the car "completely new". It makes the Petra D a variant. Thats like Skoda saying that the RS is a completely new car!
With a commercial director who thinks on these lines...is it any surprise the turmoil Fiat finds itself in?
Like I said before, its all about the management. The product is spot on.
GTO
Although I agree with GTO mostly, I beg to differ on one point. Car engine is not the car. Going by point made by GTO, Alto Vxi (discontinued) and Wagon-R should have been variants.
hey cream do keep us updated
moral, amit, merve etc any luck
cream congrats on your buy and can you please PM me the sales managers no.
thanx
na.no luck yet.maybe they are wondering what i am talking about.Fiat takes times to realise.Seen the new panda.looks really good.
have not met up with him (fiat - manager) yet. today i was free, but he was not available - till next week, i will not have time.
he also told me that the initial runs of the panda and user focus groups were conducted in bangalore and the results were very positive, they hope to introduce the stripped down version in early 2006. well, lets hope that this european car of the year turns the tide for fiat in india - and worldwide.
will keep u updated
hey guys just got a reply from Fiat,Italy.check it out.

someone who will look into it.Just a request.i dont want fiat to die in
India.ur site is also not functional in india.it says non payment is the
reason. i have posted this info on ww.team-bhp.com an India auto site.
see
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3723 "According to me
fiat is critically ill in India. They have build such a bad reputation
that it will take years for them to improve it.I think they should not
launch any new model under the Fiat name. They will have the same fate as
the very good Palio and Petra had.Instead they should bring their
company LANCIA into india. They have only one choice. You cannot bring
Masteri and Ferrari or Alfa Romeo with small cars. Then they should
launch the fiat IDEA,Panda and rebaged as Lancia.it will not cost them
anything to rebadge them.the fiat cars are not bad as we know the name
is bad. Then they can bring the LANCIA Lybra etc as midzise cars and Fiat
Ulysee and Lancia Phedra as MPV.They have no choice with their condition
as bad as it is today. Then launch Alfa Romeo as CBU and earn good
profit on highend cars to recover the losses as Merc did... The thing

Finally someone from Fiat responded! Congrats merve. I still haven't got any replies yet from them. 2 emails from India should have scared them into taking emergency action by now. Anyway, lets hope that the "releavant department" doesn't work like the Fiat India management.
