here is the news....

U.S. automaker Ford has agreed to sell its luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover to India's Tata Motors for more than $2 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter. Ford, which signed the deal on Tuesday, plans to publicly announce the transaction in New York at 0800 EST on Wednesday, said another source.

what can we expect from this....an official launch of these two brands in India?

I would love to see a CKD of jag's and Land Rover's in India, unless it's already there.

that is a fantastic news, its a red letter day in the history for indian automobile industry.

another feather in the cap for ratan ji.....

Once completed, it will be a big leap ahead of the others for TATA.

Imagine the kind of technology/ expertise gain apart from the brand value and it will not be technology transfer but technology ownership.

Hope this should help Tata Motors improve their cars for better comfort, reliability & move away their cars from truck like feeling.

Amazing We own brands that competes with Merc, Audi in luxury segments. And compete with Top SUV segments Pajero(Montero) landcruiser Prada. cheers:

Bravo TATA. Get these cars on to indian roads as soon as possible.

From Nano at one end of the specturm to Jaguar at the other, Tata will have a whole range there.

WOW! Congrats Tata

Tata-Ford deal on JLR by evening today

"Ford is selling both the brands at less than half its purchase cost, which was $5.2 billion. The company had bought Jaguar in 1989 for $2.5 billion while Land Rover was bought from BMW for $2.5 billion in 2000.

A positive news for the Tata group is that the PAG, managed to post a profit of $504 million for the last financial year despite a loss of $344 million posted in 2006."

kudos to tata..wonder how they are going to handle the jag and LR branding now

Great! Hope to see LR SUVs soon in India. They really are a treat to one's eyes...

Wish to own one as well in future!

Thumbs Up to Tata! I believe, Tata will use their marketing skills/strategy to make these two commercially viable. Down the road, once they are comfortable, they might try something in the products/technology sharing etc (depends on the agreement with Ford!). Right now, do not expect much from it other than the feeling of India owns these iconic brands in Automobile!

This is how, according to Mr.Tata:
"What attracted us was the fact that these are two iconic brands, global in nature and highly respected for their products,....We believe it is the duty of whoever owns them to nurture the image, to retain their touch and feel, and not to tinker with them. They are British brands - and they should remain British."

Here's the official announcement from Tata Motors:

It will be status-quo for some time. But over a period of time, production as well as engineering would surely move to India. If Tata really sticks around with Fiat for long, then we may see technology sharing between Fiat/Maserati/Iveco/Ferrari and JLR products. A good win-win combo.
