Once completed, it will be a big leap ahead of the others for TATA.

Imagine the kind of technology/ expertise gain apart from the brand value and it will not be technology transfer but technology ownership.

WOW! Congrats Tata

Tata-Ford deal on JLR by evening today

"Ford is selling both the brands at less than half its purchase cost, which was $5.2 billion. The company had bought Jaguar in 1989 for $2.5 billion while Land Rover was bought from BMW for $2.5 billion in 2000.

A positive news for the Tata group is that the PAG, managed to post a profit of $504 million for the last financial year despite a loss of $344 million posted in 2006."

Thumbs Up to Tata! I believe, Tata will use their marketing skills/strategy to make these two commercially viable. Down the road, once they are comfortable, they might try something in the products/technology sharing etc (depends on the agreement with Ford!). Right now, do not expect much from it other than the feeling of India owns these iconic brands in Automobile!

This is how, according to Mr.Tata:
"What attracted us was the fact that these are two iconic brands, global in nature and highly respected for their products,....We believe it is the duty of whoever owns them to nurture the image, to retain their touch and feel, and not to tinker with them. They are British brands - and they should remain British."

It will be status-quo for some time. But over a period of time, production as well as engineering would surely move to India. If Tata really sticks around with Fiat for long, then we may see technology sharing between Fiat/Maserati/Iveco/Ferrari and JLR products. A good win-win combo.
