TATA launched the Indigo CS at sub 4 metres and was able to avail tax benefits which resulted in a lower on road price. If Maruti had shaved off 16cms from the Swift Dzire, how much lower would the cost have been?

Is it possible that Maruti, unlike TATA, were unaware of the new rule coming or is it that Maruti just could not get the Dzire under 4 metres due to design, space or engineering constraints.

Another thread to Discuss about Dzire??????:Frustrati

Those 16cm give a cramped rear leg room space. Imagine without it :uncontrol.

Yes. Maruti (who ensure all their cars are less than 4000mm to claim excise duty) showed selective amnesia when it came to Dzire lol:.

Only the diesel version of Dzire would have enjoyed the excise benefits if they had kept it to below 4m. The petrol (1.3) would still be left out owing to the engine size

why doesnt maruti develop a sub 1.2 litre petrol engine for the swift hatch and dezire and chop off 16 cms from the dezire so that both the vehicles in petrol and diesel versions can claim benifit of the excise duty exemption on small cars. maruti could have actually done so but i presume the vehicle was being designed long before the announcement of the budget and probably maruti expected the excise duty to be made uniform accross all cars irrespective of length and engine capicity in the recent budget.

This rule has been there since ages. The folklore is Maruti, when part of Govt got this rule implemented to enjoy benefits for their cars. Now others have joined too, resulting in a long list cramped cars.

I don't think the excise benefit for cars < 4m, will stick for long.. soon or later, there'll be another lousy scheme

We can always talk about if this would have happened & if that would have happened but the reality is that DZire is not under 4 meter & does not enjoy same benefits as Indigo CS.
