Kill Innova,
Strangle Toyota India.
Unless Toyota has better vision, they just cannot bury the Innova like they did the qualis. A better thing to do would be to cut the pricing by a Lakh or more.

Apparently there is an updated Innova coming in December!
Heard it in the automobile news on TV, can anyone shed more light on this?

Nobody's Gonna Know When A new Innova is gonna come except for Toyota Kirloskar, and it will be a very well kept secret, moreover there is not actually requirement for a model change anytime soon for the Innova since it is selling like hotcakes all over th country, the basic reason why they haven't launched the corolla diesel, Toyota Fortuner etc is not to cannibalize the Innova market which is like their sole bread winner.

Toyota guys phased out qualis even when they had decent number of bookings pending. So i feel they are not bothered whether the model is a cash cow or not.Every model has to have a life span and generally it is some where around 4-7 years. After this time there would be a replacement or a face lift. Here we can hope for a face lift by year end and a replacement may happen by 2010.

Toyota were right till that point. And after that they have dozed off in the Indian market. They have one product for which there is not much competition and no other manufacturer is unfortunately not trying to compete Innova with their own product. Every other manufacturer is working hard to bring vehicles in B,C,D segments whereas Toyota is not.

Toyota's working concept is something different than other manufacturers. They take around 3~4 years to develop and productionize any new model. Currently they are working on a small car project which may be launched in 2010. My guess is for this model, the ground work has already started at TKM's end.

Do they have the same strategy/working concept in other countries?

i beleive they should invest on plants to produce cars in other segments - they lack in many now. Persoanlly I beleive, Rav4, Fortuner, Vios would be nice choices.

Toyota should replace the innova with fortuner. Fortuner is more aggressively styled suv and its built on the same platform of the innova. Also, the fortuner shares many of its components from the innova. So, toyota can relatively keep the manufacturing costs lower.

The Innova and the Fortuner are in two separate categories, one is a people carrier - Innova, and the Fortuner is a SUV. They may share the same platforms and components but the Fortuner has the technology to provide it off-road capabilities unlike the Innova, which is meant for highway and city use. So, basically they can not replace one another, rather they complement one and other.
