I think in 1993-94 it was Rs. 10 per litre in Bangalore, the first time I filled.

In 1998 it was Rs. 25 per litre.

Petrol -
Rs.4.69 per liter in 1980 when we were travelling Chennai-Trichy in a Standard Super 10

Rs.8.52 in Trichy in 1988 when I was doing my Engineering.Diesel was then approx half the price of petrol.

Today Aquafina costs Rs.12 per liter

Back in 85-86, I think it was about Rs. 6 or Rs. 7 in Hyderabad and we used to have a Peugot Sportif.

I remember the sub 10rs/liter in the late 80s
Probably 7-8rs/liter or something.
And the only car was M800 capable of 16 kms on those 8rs in the city. 50p/km!

The good old days...?

Ive edited the timeline from an article in Aug 97, Auto India, giving fuel prices over the years, starting with 58 paise per litre in 56.
Thanks karlosdeville, it was quite nostalgic going through the post independent car scene.

You'd better believe it! I found some fuel station bills dating back to early 1987 (when we owned an Amby Mk4). Petrol in Cochin cost exactly Rs 8.40 then.

The first time I filled petrol for my bike in 1991, the cost was 13.80 INR. Prior to that, in 1987 - 88, I remember my uncle fill up his Hero Honda CD 100 where he used to get around 8 litres of petrol for Rs. 100.

I remember as a child my father used to pay about 93p/litre, this is when we went metric. When the price was increased to Re.1 people commented that now calculation is easy. (No calculators then!)
