From the safety point of view avoid colours which merge into the road - dark grey, black, brown!

It really depends on the car you know. Some colours like white work on everything but most other colours need to suit the car. A sedate Merc can't be lime green but a small hatch can. The car decides the colour at the end of the day.

Most of the major car makers in India offers definitely these colors: Silver, Gold and of course white.
Even Mitsubishi has resorted to this trend or consumer psychology. There are 2 Silver shades, 1 Grey shad even in New Mitsubishi Cedia Sports...
My favorite Shade is RED and followed by Blue/Green, if the shade is truly good. Camry came up with light Blue and Light Green shades in 2005, looking great. In 2006, they came up with Bright flourescent shades of Green and blue and was instant hit in the middle east. I still see in India, sober colors like beige / white / black Camrys only.

So much about colors..

My favourite colour is Silver/ Grey and Black. Silver / Grey hide the dirt very well.

Depends on the car. I do like Black. But there are some cars where its beauty lies in its cuts, curves, air scoop etc. In such cases, black does not bring out its details and the beauty is lost. In fact it hides them so I would prefer lighter colour in such cases like light gray or some other colours where such details would be visible. For rugged SUVs, matted colours.

The worst color has to undoubtedly be the Pink on the Zen Estillo.

I personally find silver and golden (except on the ANHC) colors to be quite boring and dull too.

I love the purple/violet shade that the Palio NV used to have. Made the car look awesome. Otherwise the list of fav colors is quite normal - black, white, et all.

I have a Fern Green Palio though.

Well it depends more on your gender whether you like pink. Or is that too much of a generalization too?

Normally speaking, cars (or any shiny products) with clean surfaces (without too many intricate details like grooves, bulges or cuts) look very elegant in black. Ex: Innova, Linea, Fusion, Old CRV, i10 etc. Complex details get lost in black.

Cars in black colour appear smaller and cars in white colour appear bigger then they actually are.

Cars with such intricate details look better in a light colours as the surfaces reflect the light back and reveal the surface details. Ex: i20, ANHC, new CRV etc

From practicality and safety considerations:
  • Black and dark gray cars are less vissible to other road users under dark conditions. I used to be concerned about parking my black car in the dark without putting on the parking lights.
  • Black cars are most difficult to maintain. Even finger nails and car key leaves a mark. But black conceals dents very well, unless you see them from a particular angle/lighting
  • Black cars are more prone to Vandalism such as 'intentional scratching with a stone' by kids.
  • Silver glows a bit even when parked in dark
  • Silver hides the scratches better. However silver shows up dents very prominantly.

White suits almost every car and a sedan looks almost royal in white. I also like black but it is very difficult to maintain.

Pink = yuck!!
