Saw this actual M6 on the road. The colour is classy, sporty and Exotic, all at the same time. It was a shade between Blue and Purple (more towards blue). Not able to decide if the colour is better or the car

What is it called anyway?

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Maybe offtopic but while buying a car which color will have the least maintenance? Eg which will not show scratches easily? Which will be cheapest to fix? Also which color can be easily polished?

Most people prefer white and silver because dust particles dont get highlighted on these colours. Plus these colours also do not require frequent cleaning I suppose.

Not sure whether this is completely true anymore. An old friend of mine used to run the Mercedes Benz main dealer workshop in The Hague. In those days the polices used MBs a lot. All Dutch police cars have always been white. My friend told that is because white is easy to maintain and in case of needing a respray the easiest colour to work with as well.

So apparently white was a cheap colour to start with (usually not an option), relatively cheap and easy to maintain and to respray.

This was quite some years ago. So maybe paint techniques have moved on. Even so, all Dutch police cars, irrespective of brand and model are still white!

One of the more difficult colours is red. Over time it tends to get very dull and really discolour quickly. It's know as the chalk effect. Modern paints are much better. But leave a red car outside for Svetlana years and you will still see a noticeable difference with other colours

Silver is the best color to maintain in my experience. Bigger scratches etc. will anyway standout in any color. Problem driving in our cities is minor scratches and dents that keep on coming up. On silver sometimes even smaller dents are hidden as well as minor scratches.

In addition to the above, White & Silver have their own drawbacks. Any repainted panel on a car is easier identified on a lighter colored car, esp. when the paint job is done by inexperienced hands.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Ease of maintenance - hands down silver color followed by white. Especially as these dont show up dirt and scratches too.The worst color to maintain would be black. Plus any small scratch or any dirt build up makes the car look hideous. My personal favorite is silver. Just cant beat the maintenance hassle . White to me is very boring - reminds me of taxis . Plus even if silver fades over time - it is not as bad as some of the darker colors.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Some of the attractive colours I've seen on respective cars:

Vento - Candy White, Reflex Silver, Night Blue (now discontinued, came in 2012 I guess)
City - Carnelian Red
S-Cross - Pearl Arctic White > Urban Blue > Silky Silver
Nano - Papaya Orange, Yellow (can't remember exact term)
Bolt - Venetian Red
Aspire - Ruby Red, Sparkling Gold
XUV - Sunset Orange, Opulent Purple, Pearl White
Linea/Punto - Bronzo Tan, Bossa Nova White, Tuscan wine?
XCent - White and Blue
Beat/1st gen Figo - Green (for the exclusivity)
Here are some on opposite end of the spectrum, mostly due to the fact the colours don't go with the character of the vehicle:

XUV - Lakeside Brown (Dull colour for a macho vehicle)
Polo - Flash Red (Too loud for a car that looks understated otherwise)
Verna/Elantra - Red Passion (again too loud)

a friend of mine is totally in love with the color and is considering the XUV only in that color and nothing else. Shows how much perception and individual taste varies.

Not sure about the worst, but my favourites are the Race Blue on the Skoda Octavia and the British Racing Green Metallic on the Jaguars, especially first gen XF and XJ!

http://www.axaltacs.com/content/dam/...y%20Report.pdf

There is a report available online which states that in India, Silver is the most popular choice at 31% and white at 29% coming in next . Its an interesting read from a global perspective.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Just wanted to understand the impact of the car colour on the air conditioning. Do dark colours and moreso black become particularly hot in summers than say a light colored car. I am looking at the Scorpio in black, its so sexy. But, not sure if it's the right choice from the AC perspective.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

VW Polo used to come in a lovely shade of silverish sky blue. I am not sure what was the official name for that colour.
Love it every-time I see a polo in that shade.

VW may have discontinued that shade.

Also loved the Red of gen 1 Maruti-Suzuki 800 OX models.

The worst shade has to be that ugly pink colour on Estilo.
