The car shown in pictures is based on 5th generation VW Jetta model.
I have one interior shot.

Hide the badges, and you'd mistake it for a Mitsubishi. This has got to be the most Non-VW Jetta ever! Thumbs down.

I'd assume the Jetta will be assembled at the Skoda plant in Aurangabad. 8-10 lacs seems like a fair pricing and would place in the SX4 territory. How much it makes a dent in SX4 sales remains to be seen after the launch. Looks promising. What are the specs like? Any pointers?

Yes its really not looking good. Being based on the 5th generation chassis and not on the 6th generation chassis. Looks odd and not really exciting.
If price is less then success rate would be high. Else a great and economical diesel is required. Just like the Fiesta has managed to survive with that diesel.

yes it looks like a Mitsubishi. That never came to my mind.

Great lines. Striking resemblance to the new C-Class.

Pricing is very disappointing.

Spending more and attacking the 8Lakh category with diesel will give them sufficient numbers to sustain and justify their investments.
I would have thought that the VW brand is in a higher category than Skoda?

Exactly, I used to like the Jetta (mark 3-4) because it had a very unique styling. One could identify it from any angle without seeing the logo. Not anymore.

Hopefully they will continue their funky advertisements. Anyone remembers "Da da da"?

Excatly, that is my point. If VW prices this car as 13lakh, then it will be costlier than Octavia (A4) and the car doesnt look like or isnt worth its price. So my point is that the Skoda brand is making it very difficult for the VW brand to come in as a premium one. In developed countries, Skoda is a low end brand. But here in India Skoda is seen as a premium brand. So VW is finding it very difficult to make an entry. If at all VW wants to make a smashing entry, then it will have to spend a lot of money and bring in the latest, and not this boring looking 13 lakh car. Even Corolla looks better than this.

Methinks VW should stay out of India... they have established Skoda as a "premium" brand....and they have a Skoda variant for almost every VW below the 20L mark.

They might as well maintain VW brand equity in the above 20L mark with the Passat, Touareg and the like (CBUs) and leave Skoda to deal with the sub 20L market. That'd be the smarter option instead of having three similar models within a 2L window of each other.
