If it does get into the 16-18L price range, things could very well go the Mitsubishi way. The Outlander is a really good SUV,with tonnes of features. IMO its good, but it needs to prove itself against its counterpart, the CRV.

Strange for the company to place a news report of a product yet to be launched (with price mentioned) in their website! Usually they dont acknowledge such reports. This is sort of endorsing the price..

Pretty optimistic of HM to offer only a petrol version? Yes, Honda has managed it with the CRV, but then, HM-Mitsu really ain't a Honda. I hope they atleast price it competitively, and bring the diesel sooner rather than later.

As always, pricing will be the key for their success or failure..

Is there any word on whether the 7 seat option will be offered? According to Autocar report, they will not, as 5+2 configuration requires using space saver spare which is not permitted in India. This may not be true as the spare is not located within the boot area but is fixed bellow the floor in outlander.

I disagree here. Mitsu is going to need more than just pricing to bring customers in, especially when they intend to fight it out with the fantastic CRV. The Cedia is pretty well-priced now, yet isn't exactly setting the charts on fire? The Grand Vitara is cheaper than most other from its segment too....how many have you seen lately?

according to the sales manager @ HM, the outlander will be a 7-seater. It will come only with an automatic gear box and paddle shift.

Only 1 model will be on offer.

expected launch - september 2008.

Captiva isn't troubling CRV at all. Look at the sales numbers. On the contrary, I think when outlander is launched it might take some sales away from Captiva.

Would anyone have the split of sales between the CRV 2.0L and the 2.4L?

I was speaking to the sales manager here in Pune and he said he does not expect the Outlander to be launched by 2008. I asked him why they were not coming up with a deisel engine. He said Mitus worldwide has tasted success with petrol engines only.

The outlander diesel engine is a VW unit so it might work out too expensive. It is also rebadged as Peugeout 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser and has a Peugeot diesel engine inside but it can only be sold like this under their badges
