Another marketing AD from Hyundai. These numbers are no where to what we get when driving in cities. Just to fool people on the mileage the car gives. These ads will be on media, till our people talk only about mileage and not about other features of the car.
These ads are targeted with people who thinks car as a bike covered with 4 wheels to carry 5 people from Point A to Point B

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I tried this test twice.
Here is what I found.
It makes no difference if I do gear shifts at 10, 20 and so on.

However if I drive keeping the rpm under 3k and dont cross 80kmph, I get a consistent 13.5 kmpl with AC on.
Am set for a hyderabad <-> chennai trip in June.
Will post up in the offical milage tracker thread when done.

I didn't read the entire thread. But I could see that people are not believing the mileage contest. In 2007, they conducted the same in Kolkata, where they made open invitations to Verna owners. They put the winner's names in the website (couldn't find the link again). The 1st place was getting 42Kmpl while the second place was getting 27Kmpl and third 25Kmpl. I doubt if they would put fake names as winners.

But then, even if it would return 50, it is definitely not worth as I would enjoy my drive at the expense of some fuel.

An enjoyed ride in a verna diesel would give you 15-16 kmpl in any case.I have tried all sorts of tricks and still i manage to get that figure.

Hey Guys,
Yes I very much agree with Ram for sure. The Verna CRDi VGT is one heck of a car and you just cannot keep from being a miser in getting the addictive thrust. I doubt anyone can resist it

Cheers,
Adit.

My Verna CRDi VGT has done slightly more than 11,000 kms now and this is the average fuel consumption I have been getting on a tankful to tankful basis everytime.

City in peak traffic where impossible to go beyond 3rd gear = 13.5km/l
Highway with hustle and bustle of trucks cars & others = 15 odd km/l
Highways w/ min. braking and constant speeds of 90 - 120km/hr. = 15.5 - 17 km/l.

Maybe if I drive very carefully on the best highway with a light foot I might get close to 18.5 - 20 kms/ ltr. BUT that is a dream LOL. Hard to drive like a grandpa in a Verna CRDi VGT

Mac , your stats are very true even from me, I done 19,000 kms. On long drives my Verna CRDi gives 15.5 to 16 km/l from me with a speed of 100 to 120 Kmph. Same verna give 18.5 to my brother-in-law,who drives very decent by maintaining not more than 85Kmph with out hard throttle .

2 tbhpians have got 20-24 km/l as mileage but maintaining the speeds between 60-80 kms/hr on highways. But it sure would be a difficult task in verna crdi to maintain that speed.

Plausible if my friend with the worst driving habit can return with an average of 15kmpl... then 42 under test conditions doesn't sound unreal... and this guy's the epitome of accelerate and brake driving and always has the worst average!!!

I remember, Autocar carried out a rally like this with public participation and the best mileage was achieved by M800 followed closely by Zen. And both were plus 45. This was done about 5 or 6 yrs before. Verna is still below them.

Last December, I took part in a Fuel Conservation Rally by WIAA. I got 15 in my Padmini, and The MAX was around 34 in an Alto.
