Nano May Not be Rs 1 Lakh After all

A day or two back, it was coming on a news channel at round 1 pm.. I think it was zee news or zee business. There the news was that the suppliers have increased the cost of the parts used in the Nano and that the nano might not be able to even carry an ex showroom price of Rs. 1 Lakh.

This will really be disastrous for Ratan Tata as his dream for the 1 lakh car might just have to remain as a dream . It will now be interesting to see how Tata gets the price back to 1 lakh ( ex showroom )

We were told quite clearly at the Auto Expo earlier that it would be about 1.3L for the base model and the higher model with Aircon would be close to 1.5L.

Sam, those prices would be the on road prices of the car once it is launched.

During the Nano's unveiling at the auto expo, Mr. Tata had said that it would be available at an ex showroom price of 1,00,000 Rupees, since "A promise is a promise".

However, I doubt that the suppliers would be able to increase prices at this stage of the program. I am sure negotiations would have finished and prices would be frozen with a lock in period as wel. I wonder how reliable this news actualy is.

Surely Ratan Tata would have predicted such a rise before itself in his mind . And the Tata team may already have found the solution to tackle this .

IIRC the ex factory price was 1 lakh

Will Tatas be able to keep Nano at Rs 1 lakh?

Even it does not include VAT. vat @ 12.5 % on 1lakh comes to 1.125 lakhs which is ex-showroom price. Add to that, transportation cost, insurence cost and road tax which totals to around 1.25 - 1.30 lakhs.

The price rise is a boon in disguise as it will keep the hoardes of unskilled drivers off the road. I hope the basic model hits the roads at 1.75lakh. We have enough idiots on the roads without encouraging more.

And i guess u are the only brilliant genius in this country who deserves to drive on the roads here. the Country's infrastructure is not your personal property. Others have an equal right to use it. Just because, you have a proper car,and can afford the luxuries in life, dosent mean that the common man has no dreams of owning a car and transporting his family in safety. The tata nano is a dream come true for many. And its price rise would affect the dreams of many.

People like u are the main reason why India is not yet a fully developed country. Neither do u do anything to contribute anything (as can be understood from your attitude) nor do u appreciate the efforts of others. ratan tata and his team have worked their hearts out on this project to make it a success, and what does the great BIGMAN do? Pray that he fails.

bigman, whoever u are,Please refrain from such arrogant and pompous statements on this forum. Do what little u can do top this country- Keep quiet atleast!

Hmm, why not ban Nano and introduce better bus services in cities - in rural ofc, its tricky

why not make public transport convenient, nice, affordable and ubiquitous?

Headsup to Jayd, could not have put it down better.

At other critics of the Nano's pricing, whats up really? A man has a vision, something that the pioneers of the industry could have not ever thought possible.
Ratan Tata has just almost managed to pull off 'the impossible', if not 1 lac, a few thousands more, really whats the difference. Appreciate the effort if you can't do anything else.

You'll should know this, my brother was in China very recently for a trade fair.
He visited a stall of a locally well known Chinese manfacturer. Upon enquiring about the price for one of the entry level hatches they had on display, my brother was told, "you are from India, we can't make cars for 2500 $, just not possible"
Remember this is a reputed manafacturer from a country that has the lowest prices for almost anything you can think of.

Yes its difficult.

Yes its very difficult to keep up with the ex-showroom price tag of 1 lakh.
The words " Promise is a Promise " are really doubtful. Ratan Tata promised that India would have

1) Price of 800,
2) Fuel effeciency of Zen and
3) Space of Ambassador.

Well all three are not satisfied.
I am sincerely expecting 1.3 lakh tag for Nano as ex-showroom price.
The only, and one important bonus for Gujarat state is that here we are no longer having Octroi.

I can think of a few more boons in disguise like this for this country.

Let's raise the price of cows and bulls, this will keep the farmers off the roads.

This will automatically raise the price of milk, so only the rich kids can afford to drink it and be healthy.

Why milk, let's raise the price of all food in India, so only the rich can eat, the poor will die of starvation and our population will be controlled quickly.

Come on bigman, think before you make a post like that. It's not nice to assume that a person who cannot afford an expensive car is an unskilled driver and/or an idiot.

Most of the unskilled drivers and idiots that I know drive cars that cost over 20 Lakhs.
