SOS - Car Transfer Procedure

Hi all,
Desperate for some help - am an absolute novice at this!
I am getting transferred to Mumbai (Andheri) from Chennai. Had bought a Swift Vxi in Chennai from ABT Maruti in Oct 2006.
The Insurance/Registration was handled by them and I havent' claimed insurance so far. Also, I think lifetime tax
has been paid (not too sure about this. need to read the fine print)
Now, people have been telling me to:
a. SELL off the car since re-registering is an expensive process in Mumbai and they dont let other
state vehicles ply
b. Get a NOC from Tamil Nadu which will enable me to drive on Mumbai Roads
c. Transfer Life Tax, so Registration costs will be much cheaper
I am absolutely confused. I hadn't budgeted for a car change so early and have spent a bit on the ICE/Wheels.

Please help me out with a dummies step-by-step procedure on what to do! I am like a rabbit caught in the headlight not knowing which way to turn!
Thanks!
