Swift - Fastest Selling Car in India

Source Welcome to rediff.com (Swift, the fastest selling car in India)

People have had complaints about Swift quality, flimsy build, lack of power at low rpm, looks sucks, Maruti quality and standards deteriorating by the day etc etc.

Well how come the sales figures say otherwise, people are lapping up Swift by the thousands, In April it recorded the highest sales in 3 years for a month 9490 units.

Excerpts from the article

Maruti Suzuki's runaway success with 'Swift' has crossed a new milestone in sales -- 200,000 units -- with the car becoming one of the fastest selling models in India since its launch three years ago to achieve this feat.

"Maruti Swift has attained new benchmarks very swiftly. It has emerged as the fastest selling car in India by completing the 200,000 units sales mark in less than 36 months," a company official said.

The company launched this premium hatchback in petrol variant on May 25, 2005. In its first year of launch, it clocked sales of 61,200 units.

"The popularity of petrol version inspired the company to launch a diesel variant in January 2007, powered by much acclaimed and the most compact diesel engine in its category," he said.

People who have complained have mostly been Swift owners. Im a Swift owner and i do neglect the minor problems in the car for its looks, performance etc. Im expecting Suzuki to launch a better Swift in 2010 !
Great for MSIL to sell 2 lac cars in 3 years !
