very important question ... i believe they were thinking of competing with the s class so they will manufacture the next generation 7 series... please has anybody heard of this ??

If BMW can bump up production capacity then def the 7 series would come as CKD.

But currently their plant is running full capacity, i just called to book a 525d and was told waiting is 6 months atleast. I too waited for 5 months for my first one but now that they have increased production capacity, the waiting time has still increased.

Also, the magazines have been speculating that the X5 is the next to be produced here.

given the fall of the USD against the euro most / all eurp[e based auto companies are increasing / making use of the full potential of the US based plants

i'm just curious...what difference does this make to the end customer?

I've noticed in the 30lacs+ segment that even CKD cars are sold with the same premium as CBU cars.

EDIT: And they need to as well... The extra margin they enjoy on CKD has to pay for the initial investment in these low volume segments

many advantages --

C.B.U.'s can be tailormade to the customers specs with each and every detail to his choice.

C.K.D.'s are standard with sometimes limited color options too besides other things like wheel designs and all

also if the next gen will be a CKD then the delay in launching the car would be more...

BMW is presently concentrtating on their 3 and 5 series production. The 7 and the suv will, till further specified by them, remain to be a cbu.
