My 525d popped up a "Service due" message on the iDrive this weekend...the car is around 7 months old now and done 11,500kms.

Have been pondering over whether to get the extended warranty+service plan which the dealer has been pushing for a while. So the time has come to make the decision since first service is now due.

Have attached below the spare part price list for the entire BMW range for future reference if anyone required.
But for now please have a look at the 535d (i think its a misprint for 525d)spare part list and help me decide if it is worth getting this package.(details of package attached below too)

My average running is about 1500-2000kms a month with 2-3 round trips to Pune every month.

PRICE for 525d:

5 YEARS/60,000Kms = RS. 1.92 LAKHS

5 YEARS/100,000KMS= RS. 2.77 LAKHS

Car comes with 2 years/unlimited kms warranty as standard so this is an addition of 3 years.

I thing owning a wonderfull car you should go ahead for the extended warranty,it helps in getting parts a little cheaper over the actual spare prices.

Suspension isst included in the plan. I think by the time you cross 50000 km, it would be due for an overhaul. Wheel alignment and imbalances arent covered either. Brakes pads, etc can be sourced from outside for a little lesser. Plan also does not include any work required on the engine if the need arises. If there is any issue with the mechanics of the engine, they will surely find ways to make you pay for it like "adulterated fuel, etc".
To me the plan dosent seem attractive enough.

It's a BMW :) more over alignment is never inclueded more over irf iot is a pwertrain / bumper to bumper warranty if sahil has not done any mods to the ecu/sw(other than the approved oones(DINAN)) the warranty will stay in force and if you are firm with BMW they will not give you issues i had BMW Change the transmission drive shaft axels and the diff under warranty

I think you should go for the 1 lakh mileage

As in 7 months u've done about 12000 kms, so on an average your call will run 20000 a year which will transform to 1 lakh in 5 year. If u intend to keep the car for that long, it will be worth ever buck(considering its a BMW)

Sahil, you mean to say that the one disadvantage of owning a German car is negated by paying what is the equivalent of 40 grand a year? I say, opt for the service plan with your eyes shut. The additional 3 year warranty, alone, makes the deal well worth it.

The plan works out to 55 grand a year,as per my running i would require the higher plan.

Just got slapped with an estimate of 25 grand for the first service itself, oil change+filter and polish/cleaning.
So I am leaning more towards this plan now.

The damn labour charges were 10.5k alone!

25K is huge for the first service. Can you outline the exact parts & labour that made up that amount?

And yes....opt in on the service package. Is the 25K credited if you do?

oil service labor=2100
motor oil(8 litres @1139 each)+glass clean+filt element=10600
polish(buffing inside and out)=7500
general check up labor=800
with tax etc totals exact Rs.24,884

If i take the plan all this will be included (i'm not sure of the polishing tho)

Aha, this is what made it more expensive than the E Class. I am sure this wasn't compulsory? Good decision to get her polished from BMW authorised though.

Well it wasn't really my decision, they just added it as a part of the 1st service.
Although i was looking to get her polished from them but hadn't mentioned it at all.
How much does the first service for the E/C diesel cost? Aren't the labor charges on the higher side?

I wouldn't be too happy with that. What if I do the polishing myself, or would rather give it to an aftermarket specialist? What if I simply didnt want to pay 7.5 grand for a wax job? It really isnt fitting of BMW to force wax jobs down their customers throats.

About 15K. Yup, the labour charges are high indeed. They have charged you 2100 bucks for nothing more than an oil change.

I think its time to sign in on the service package, Sahil.

I gotta agree with GTO.
Sign in on the maintenance plan asap.
