More than the i10 , the Getz needs the new engin to compete with the likes of Swift which has been outselling it 6:1.
I completely agree!

A new Getz 1.2 (while discontinuing the 1.1 and 1.3) with an all new promotional campaign would revitalize the Getz for sure! It would benifit from economies of scale and could easily extend the product lifecycle

Arrgh, the reason I hate Apple products. Upgrades just too frequent.

Anyways,

Guys, any insider info on the pricing? The website is yet to be updated.

Hi,

Pricing is given in today's Hindu newspaper.

"Hyundai Motor India Ltd., (HMIL) has launched a new ‘i10’, powered by a 1.2 litre Kappa engine, at its plant in Chennai. The car will be priced between Rs. 3.99 and Rs. 5.43 lakh."

By the time GP will be launched, India might as well have won the FIFA World Cup. I've been in Chennai for 3 weeks now, and I dont think Linea really fits the Chennai roads now. So as of now I'm really wondering between the i10 Kappa and the Swift D.

3.99 to 5.43 is the pricing for the Kappa or i10 in general ?

Well, yes and no, I guess. For eg , take the phenomenal success of swift, when it is not exactly the most fuel efficient car. However, when I bought the i10 for my parents 3 weeks back, it didn't matter for me that the kappa was getting launched soon, since my parents requirements & usage were completely different. If, however, I was buying a car for myself, I would have waited for the 1.2 l engine.
The beauty of i10 has been that it has carved a space for itself in the 4-5 L segment, when no one thought such a space existed. Everyone assumed that fuel efficiency and price alone mattered, but the fact of the matter has been that i10 has outsold all other cars in this segment , that too at a premium over others.
Anyway, the reports do say that, the kappa engine will be "4-5% more fuel efficient"

Well, yes, if you are looking for a resale in the short term. If, however, you have a view of 4-5 years, then I would say that this difference would be very small. The 2nd car market has a different dynamics of it's own.

They may for the top end version.

Getz more space and its one class up for atleast the educated man. Else they can drop the 1.1 version of Getz.

Swift has better FE and hence sells more than the Getz, though it is less spacious and has inferior build quality.

And Sridhar, enthusiasts on TBhp do not constitute the masses. You and I would probably pay a little premium for a car that handles well but not everyone will share our point of view.

Yes, I mentioned as much when I talked about my own purchase of i10 for my parents. I bought a 1.1 L Magna for them knowing fully well that a 1.2 L was on it's way in a few weeks.(My parents were going to be chaffeur driven anyway. But it helped me get a discount! - still I chose a i10 over other cars in my budget range) My bigger point was FE and price are just two of the factors that have lead to the phenomenal success of i10.
Price - almost everyone says it is over priced. It certainly is priced more than it's competition.
FE - Spark is more fuel efficient. Wagon R and Zen estillo are just marginally behind - almost negligibly so.
The words used to describe i10 are peppy, bright, modern and (for what it is worth ,"tashan"?) and Hyundai backs it up with a good A.S.S and superb marketing. Kudos to the Korean car maker for having created a 'premium' image in the price sensitive 4 - 5 L bracket and outselling the competition, while still commanding a premium. My point is that people did not think this was possible before i10 showed that this is possible to do so in this price range.
I am not saying that the Indian Public cares much about BHP or handling. But price and FE alone will not translate to success. Take the sadly mismanaged marketing of Chevrolet Spark.

May your dream come true as the new i20 is expected to replace Getz by year end. See the link below. I think they will just have one petrol i20 with 1.2 L Kappa and another one with CRDi.

People would whine about the poor fuel efficiency in that case. Majority do not know anything about tires, those who care will upgrade to better-than-OEM rubber anyway...

Useful stuff like the rear wiper/washer & defogger are no longer available in the Magna 1.2. You have to buy the Sportz variant to get those.

So it looks like the Magna 1.2 is a slightly stripped down version of the Magna 1.1, but with the new engine. And the Sportz can be considered to be the Magna 1.1 with an engine upgrade and integrated audio added on.

I guess Hyundai had to do this jugglery to keep the price of the Magna 1.2 in the same range as the earlier Magna 1.1

Amit.

Price of the Auto Sportz in Chennai I guess will be 4.80 instead of 4.08. If these prices are to be believed, the Asta will rule this segment!!

Bigger better engine, yeah, but is it as stable as the Swift and Getz for higher speeds? Have they upgraded the chassis and suspension as well?

i10 1.2 Kappa Test drive report

Source - Hyundai’s new i10 kappa - a brief test drive at Straight Frm The Heart

Hyundai i10 has already smashed number of records and won 75000 hearts in a span of just 8 months. The epsilon engine (currently used in santro and ) is a proven and well known for its frugal nature (still lower variants of i10 will be powered by this engine). Then what is need for an another new engine. As you know, India is sole producer of i10 and Hyundai is exporting i10 to european countries from here. From this septemeber all the manufacturers have to adhere to the strigent Euro 5 emission norms. There comes the need for the new kappa engine. It emits 119g/km of CO2 and adhere to the Euro 5. But in Indian context, Hyundai wants to use this kappa engine to qualify the i10 to compete in a class above her. The kappa powered i10 will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki’s swift
We test driven the i10 sportz and i10 Asta Automatic at Hyundai’s test track and here are our first impressions. There is no difference in styling except for the 1.2L and kappa badge at the rear. Getting under the hood, Hyundai claims kappa is one of lightest engine and hence it has higher power to weight ratio in its class. The new 1.2L Kappa engine cranks out 20% more power (now 80PS at 5200rpm) and the torque is improved by massive 13% to 114Nm when compared to the proven epsilon engine. It offers good low end torque but the pickup is not that electric. However the kappa engine is more refined than the epsilon engine and vibrations are low. Even when you strain the engine it never roars it moans. We managed to push the i10 sportz (five speed manual) to 125kmph. She remains stable even at those high speeds but the high speed cornering may not be welcomable one in the i10. We have to blame the steering, though it is sharp and precise the response is not so good. However the bite is excellent. The four-channel ABS gives good reassurance and you are down to the road very quickly. Coming to the i10 Asta Automatic, put the lever in D-mode and just press the accelerator pedal, the 4-speed auto box takes care of everything. i10 automatic offers a relaxed ride till 80kmph where it dips a little bit and immediately comes to life again. We hit a top whack of 110kmph with the i10 Asta Automatic
The best gets better! ya, you will tell the same once you get inside the new i10 sportz. The sportz variant i10 gets a new interior. The new red fabric blends perfectly with the beige and further enhances the look. Here are detailed prices of the new variants
Overall with the introduction of kappa engine Hyundai has moved the i10 excitement to a new level. Hyundai claims the mileage of new i10 kappa would be 4-5% more than epsilon engined i10. Though only our complete test drive will reveal all the fine details. We are convinced if you want a comfortable, hassle free ride, i10 Asta Automatic would be the perfect fit for the Indian traffic conditions

Delhi Chennai

Magna Rs3,99,023(Manual),Rs4,44,013(Auto) Rs4,01,321(Manual),Rs4,43,377(Auto).
Sportz Rs4,28,808(Manual),Rs4,80,580(Auto) Rs4,25,355(Manual),Rs4,08,810(Auto)
Asta Rs4,35,578(Manual) Rs4,35,205(Manual)
Asta (Sunroof) Rs5,00,833(Manual),Rs5,43,844(Auto) Rs5,00,510(Manual),Rs5,42,354(Auto)

I believe i10 auto will be the 'breakout' car for automatics in India.
