Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

Friends,

Some Shell petrol pumps in Bangalore who fall inside city have a petrol price of 76.10 INR (like the one on Old Madras road near big Bazzar). where just 6 km away on whitefield (near IFB factory) they sell at 75.60 INR.

The reason that I came to know after some hard questions is within city limits they are selling Euro IV petrol where as outside the prescribed limits they sell Euro III petrol.

My questions -

1.) Does whitefield not ocme under city limits?? Is this a rule or what by government, what if I fill petrol daily from outside and drive in the city??
Are they not supposed to update the city limits.

2.) What is the difference between Euro III and Euro IV petrol?? Petrol is sold by octane rating and then some special petrol by adding some aditives. What is this Euro IV and III?????

As per the Shell pump guys, there is some extra aditives in Euro IV petrol.

The one selling Euro IV said this is what you should fill or else your car engine will suffer .

The one selling Euro III said no problem sir, why pay extra when there is no difference in performance.

I could not find any difference between the two as both petrol were on different vehicles.

Hope some one has an answer.

There is a price difference of a few paia between blr urban & blr rural districts. If I am not wrong, it is because of some cess which was introduced few years back by the govt for improving the roads

It was 25ps then & probably has gone up to 50ps now due price rise (& hence a %age increase in cess as well?).

Another question: what is the preferred credit card at shell bunks? Any specific card which is shell branded or supported by shell where there is no surcharge? Anyone knows?

Thanks for the explaination. But where are the roads in Bangalore :P. And then what is that euro 3 & 4 petrol. Also then there should be difference in govt. petrol pumps too? As for the credit card I used sbi master card one. But the reversal was short of 3 rupees. Now don't use card at pump.

Coming to the credit cards preferred at Shell outlets; I use the hdfc platinum credit card which has waiver of surcharge at all fuel stations, but one thing that i observed in my credit card statements is that not the complete surcharge is waived off in the cases where i have filled from Shell. When i enquired about this with the customer support I was given the reason that all the Shell outlets use HSBC EDCs, therefore the complete surcharge is not waived off. But the surcharge charged was negligible, it was around 1.5% of the surcharge waived off I presume.

Yesterday, filled up at Shell Ameerpet. They were advertising there fuel prices 75.25(shell) vs 75.42(psu). And were happy discussing about the prices with the customers.

Additives in the Euro IV may help achieve lower emission levels. I am sure there wont be any difference in the performance delivered between the two.
