It may sound strange, but my Elantra CRDi's mileage has actually gone up after switching over to PSUs. I don't find any noticeable difference in ride quality either. I used to get 13.7 with ~5% A/C from Shell and Essar (tried that too). But with a local HP bunk, I now get 14.3 with ~ 70% A/C! Is it just me??

sriram i have at times noticed shell giving lesser mileage compared to PSU's mainly for one reason.
Most of the cars in india are tuned to run on PSU fuels which are comparatively lesser quality than that of shell so there are chances that PSU fuels suit your engine more.

I've experienced similar effects in my UNO D. I once filled up at a Shell outlet in Chennai and got about 1 to 1.5 kms lesser than what I usually get in my UNO on highway drives. But this was atleast 2 years back. I always get 17.6 on highways and at that time I was able to get only 16 to 16.5 kmpl.

Thats the only COCO bunk I know. Thats why I asked if somebody knows any more. Would ask you where the Aundh bunk is, but Aundh is way out for me.

And yes, whenever I have checked, I have noted that the mileage is pretty much the same whether I fill up from Shell or the RTO bunk. So I wouldn't pay any significant premium for Shell... though the service of Shell is of course better.

Shell has recently sold its entire stake in Shell Gas (LPG) India to Aegis Logistics for an undisclosed sum. Shell is also planning an exit from low margin downstream retail operations (distribution and petrol pumps) in many African countries.

This is the response I got from Shell when I cribbed about their prices, and told them I wont be coming in to their filling stations anymore - at least not until they come with 5 bucks of the PSU stations:

Quote:
Our pump prices move up and down depending on international prices. Government of India subsidises fuel sold by the public sector companies and this subsidy is not available to private players like Shell. Despite higher costs for quite sometime now, we sold fuels at our sites at lower rates. Unfortunately, it would not be possible for us to continue to indefinitely subsidise fuel prices.

We regret losing a valuable customer like yourself and will do everything possible to offer the most competitive prices at all times. We are sure you will understand the rationale for the price change and hope to welcome you on our forecourts.

Filled in at Shell today. Unleaded is 59.5 per litre.
I think the difference of 6 bucks is to much. I am seriously considering to start PSU pumps from the next reserve.
Come to think of it, I get 11.5 to 12 km pl in PSU and close to 13 in shell. That is about 5 bucks per litre more out of shell compared to PSU (Fuel cost/ Mileage= 60/12= Rs. 5 per km). It still evens out despite Shell being costlier by 6 Rs. per litre

@hrman
It is not only the mileage! I love the smooth purr of the engine with the Shell petrol, which is decidedly less with PSU petrol. But how long I can stick with Shell I don't know!

Enjoy it while you can as of 5.00pm 31st March the only Shell pump in Navi Mumbai closed down. Pune is the nearest city now dispensing Shell.

This is just before the BEL Circle on your left when you come from Gokula extension.

While going to Mumbai yesterday. Went to a Shell pump just before the Expressway . The petrol price was 62 Rs. Sai petrol pump one minute away sold it at 51Rs. 11 Rs diffrence that means 200Rs more for a full tank in Shell.
