| ![]() with hike in PSU fuel prices imminent , they could come close to (or par) with private pump prices. Would all then switch to Shell for its perceived quality assurance, and not pay the same price for potentially adulterated fuel at PSU pumps? |

| ![]() If you look at this thread itself, you would see a lot of people having switched out of Shell due to 10Rs difference. So, yes the crowd would throng the Shell. While there has been this talk of thsi price hike "imminent" , I am not sure how soon this is, given the last one was only couple of months back. |

Gansan - I am confused now. Since Petrol is now decontrolled by the central govt, the price of the PSU Ptrol with that of Private sectors like reliance and shell should be the same right. If it is still more then it doesnet make any difference. Can anyone tell me if the price of Shell is still more than a PSU? | |

| ![]() Now that government regulation of pricing is not there, do you guys think that the companies will try to compete against each other by trying to offer cheaper rates than competition ? Or will the prices of HP/Others be the same ? |

Infractions: 0/1 (5) | ![]() I think all PSU petrol prices will be equal in the short term, and start differing in the long term. If the Govt does not monkey around with the prices again, that is. But there may be an upper limit for the prices beyond which the Govt may intervene. Shell fuels are still more expensive than PSU fuels even now, but I feel the difference will narrow down further as the effects of de-regulation kick in fully. If it does not, we can infer some hanky-panky from the Govt! |

| ![]() I expect other private players - esp. Reliance & Essar to be back in action. There is even talk of a price war since the private sector has lower production costs and overheads. So let is hope that Shell comes off its high horse and joins the hoi polloi. |

| ![]() In Australia, there are many international oil marketing companies like Shell, British Petroleum, Mobil, Esso, Caltex, etc., operating. The prices of petroleum products differ from companies to companies and fluctuate from day to day. The prices are the highest during week-ends and lowest during mid-week. I found, sometimes the diesel prices are costlier than that of petrol because there is no cross-subsidy involved. I think, the same scenario would emerge in India soon. |
