That is wonderful news!

I think Shell should go for the kill and introduce their F1 scale model promotional offer. They'll be a huge queue outside Shell everyday.

I'm glad there's a Shell outlet within a few kms!

If shell petrol prices are close to what the PSU prices are, then why aren't the diesel prices also close to PSU ones? Last time I checked, shell diesel costed Rs 54.xx/liter!! No idea about the current prices tho'.

April 2011 price of Shell diesel in Chennai : Rs. 61.xx !!!
PSU diesel in Chennai costs ~ Rs. 42.xx

When I meant "the last time I checked,"it was actually 4-5 months ago!! I'm sure blore prices would also be lurking around the same price, but I guess shell fuel prices costs a tad more in Chennai. This is why I was intrigued as to why shell diesel can't be priced closer to PSU diesel?!

Thanks @volkman10. I did a full tank at the outlet near Lalbag, price 71.95 for shell regular. They have put up a big banner showing the reduced price.

There is an air of exuberance at the Shell pumps today- I hope it lasts!

Unleaded is 70.95 and Super Unleaded 73.45 at Hinjewadi Shell as of today. Topped up a tankful of Super!

Noop, is that only for petrol, or have diesel prices dropped too?

Diesel prices cannot fall anywhere near the PSU prices because diesel is heavily subsidised by the government and petrol is just about subsidised and top it all by next year government is planning on deregulating fuel prices, that seems we will see some stiff competition to PSUs from these private companies and also we will get to see some new players in the market, both foreign and Indian.

Saw a display board at Shell Chromepet showing normal unleaded @ Rs 71.50. So super unleaded should be about Rs 74.00, against Rs 78.xx a week ago.
