The Indica probably needs Indifuel. Treat her to some nice yummy Indianoil Xtrapremium or Xtramile & see the difference yet again.

I am using Shell Diesel for last 3 months for my Indica Turbo(DLG) and getting consistence mileage of around 17Kms. Run around 2000+Kms. Also the pick-up is good.

I have used shell diesel in my 2004 NA DLS as well as the 2007 DLG. The DLG gave me better mileage and pickup, whereas with my DLS the mileage dropped and pickup remained the same as BP regular.

in BLR, Shell regular petrol costs Rs. 50.66 = petrol from HP, BP, IOC, etc.,

so question where goes the subsidy?

From an outsider point of view IMO - Subsidy is for the inefficiencies (Over staffing) , Bureaucracy and lethargy built into the PSUs. Else all our PSUs would be making profits wouldn't they.

Subsidies are not for the inefficiencies but for the Kerosene, LPG and Diesel which are grossly subsiddised

FE Variation with Shell

I have NHC and I have found that there is a large variation in FE when I have used Shell (normal).
The range has been between 10-18 in city conditions, with no major change in driving patterns.
Can anyone provide pointers why there is such a large variation in FE.

LonelyPlanet,

A good question, and the reasons you get an increase in overall FE when you fill from a Shell bunk is mainly because the fuel is pure and not adulterated. I have noticed an increase in the overall FE in my car when ever I fill with Shell unleaded petrol by as much as 1.5 kms overall!

A fair assessment is that 50% of all PSU fuel-pumps indulge in under-dispensation. I myself have been cheated once when my Alto's tank can hold only 35 and I had at least 2 liters already in it when I went to the bunk and the guy filled in 36.67 litres!

How they do it is quite simple:
  1. ‘Fix’ the Dispenser – done usually with the connivance of the various staff, including those of Enforcement Agencies
  2. Not start delivering with the fuel meter at zero
  3. Distract you while doing so
  4. Keeping the pipeline empty
These are some of the ways how they cheat you. These practices are not found at Shell bunks, with just one attendant coming to attend to your car, which is also why you find an increase in overall FE when you fill at Shell.

To counter this menace at the PSU pumps, you can exercise your right by asking then to fill up a certified Weights and Measures Certified Can, which all fuel pumps are obliged to keep with them.

Hope these tips help.

Cheers,
gpa

+1 to what gpa said above ! I too try to almost always fill up at Shell bunks but invariably, circumstances have made me fill elsewhere and I too have experienced a drop in mileage sometimes and sometimes in performance also !

I am only filling at Shell bunks, hence the variation is a little baffling

If you demand this, I bet they will not oblige. Most probably a toughie will materialize from somewhere and look you over!

Better to find out and stick to bunks like Shell, even if they are a little out of the way. And not all PSU bunks are bad, there must be a few good ones left.
