Went and filled up and was casually chatting with the mgr as know him being a regular. They said their business has doubled since the price reduction, good times for them.

Put shell super today, for Rs 74.40/- was a pleasant surprise with shell matching PSUs.

That price difference is due to the deregulation of Petrol and not diesel. If diesel is also deregulised, The prices in PSU's will be close to what it is priced in Shell. There was news a week back about Diesel also being deregulated. Guess it will be done in the near future. Diesel price deregulation necessary to manage fiscal deficit, says Rangarajan

Here in Mysore it is less than normal PSU. Tanked up yesterday at Rs 70.35.

IMO this will not happen any sooner.
De-regulating the Diesel rates will bring the country to a grinding halt.
85% of India's Transport, be it commodities or the industry, is dependent on Road transport - which is a big consumer of diesel.

Imagine the price of a simple courier escalate from Rs. 25 to Rs. 75; or the price of milk and bread going up two folds, etc. etc.

Good news! Just filled up at Shell on Airport Road near RT Nagar today. Price is down to 70.60. Shell is cheaper now than PSU bunks after a long long time in Bangalore!

I filled the tank completely at 68.57 unleaded petrol in chennai. I think Shell is now cheaper than non-shell petrol.

Guys I must take my words back.
Have been proven wrong by our govt.
The prices did go up.

BTW, do any of T-BHPians from Pune have any update on the prevailing Shell rates - especially Diesel rates?

Ya mate, Shell unleaded (not premium) petrol in Chennai is 68.57.
Unleaded petrol at PSU bunks is 67.26

Is the petrol deregulation a permanent affair... that is, will Shell petrol always be competitive with PSU prices from now on?

I'm surprised I didn't notice any articles in the media on this. Does anyone have any web article links?

Shell diesel prices in bangalore also reduced its approximately 54 rs a liter now.
