I just filled normal petrol at Rs. 73.35/- at the Varthur rd Shell yesterday. After reading the prices here, I was expecting 73; but the pump showed 73.35.

Can anybody confirm the prices today? Else, I'll need to have a talk with the pump manager today. Unfortunately though, I don't have the receipt with me.
I can confirm. I just had a look at the receipt again now. Filled on 1st Dec evening, the price was 73 for normal shell petrol. Filled at Shell on Brookfield Main road.

Probably shell has increased the price to match the PSU oil company prices

So, Shell has indeed raised prices to get them on par with PSUs!

I checked the price and it was Rs. 73.35 per litre of unleaded petrol on Dec 2, 2011. The bunk guy said that they increased prices by .35 overnight.

Even then, Shell petrol is marginally cheaper than the PSU pump's petrol that costs Rs 73.51.

I wonder why shell normal petrol price is higher than PSUs in Hyderabad.

PSUs are selling at ~73 but shell is selling at ~75.5.

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread. Update: Going down cheaper than PSU's.

Filled up Shell super yesterday from Porur, Chennai. I usually stop at the first auto cut off, but this time I thought I will fill to the brim, Sparky gulped another 13 liters after the first auto cut off . That makes a total of 41liters in one go.

This is the first time I am using Shell before this, I usually fill(Regular petrol) from BP company outlet near Collector Nagar, Chennai.

I had a 60Km drive within the city after the top up, my initial impressions are the throttle response(transient) has improved drastically. Can't conclude this is because of Shell, since I am jumping from regular to super.

What is the octane rating of Shell super. is it 91?

I also found knocking when we suddenly try to accelerate, say from 40 Kmph in 5th/4th gear. This is only happening if you coast down to 40 Kmph from higher speed and then suddenly accelerate.

May be this would have happend before also. I found it only now because I never evaluated to this minute details before.

OT: Does the engine knock when AFR is on the leaner side?

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread. Update: Going down cheaper than PSU's.

^^Both premium and normal petrol of all brands are 91 octane. The only exception is Speed 07.

Accelerate sharply in 5th gear from 40 KPH? That is lugging the engine. Try it in any car using any petrol, the result will be the same.

Ok. I was so happy with the new found peppiness of the engine for the initial throttle movements, went a bit extreme to test it. Anyways I am not going back to regular petrol form now on.

OT:TVS Jive is having a good engine with minimal knocking. You can even run the bike in 4th gear from standstill without much of knocking(gradual acceleration though).
