Nice.
Thanks to all those who have posted the specs. All other cars in Rs. 3.5-4.5 lakh are now having a reason to worry.

Finally a long stroke motor. Lets say it develops 67.5 bhp ( 50 Kw), and with full options it weighs in at 910 kg, so we still have power to weight ratio of 74.1 bhp/ltr. So some reasonable performace expected.

Santro and Wagon R have a cause to worry. Wagon R sales are bound to drop along with Santro. Top speed of around 155 is good for this car. I hope the FE will be also equally impressive given the good torquey feel and good torque will be hopefully available from that long stroke motor.
Gearbox as good as Swift is a good thing. Wow Maruti!

@mail4ajo:
The fuel efficiency figures are not correct. Figure out this : 62.7 ltrs used for 100 kms = 1.5 ( approx ) kmpl. Might be a typing or decimal error.

EDIT : The website mentioned by sidindica states the fuel efficiency of 4.5 L/100 km = 22 kmpl. So expect the efficiency to be high.

Yes, dimension-wise is smaller than the Swift but bigger than the WagonR/Estilo.

But the thing to be seen here is, with a puny 1.0L engine, can it beat the i10 Kappa? I seriously doubt. Unless they price it within the present WagonR/Estilo price, i10 Kappa will take all the customers. In the mean while, Hyundai might just launch the Era and D-Lite versions of i10 Kappa. If this happens, what will Maruti do?

So, to conclude(IMO), the idea of 1.0L engine was a very bad one. It should have been the 1.2. Else, price it within the Estilo range.

This 1ltr engine produces as much power as the older 1.1ltr engine. So, it matches it's competitors in that department. Ain't it?

Hope MSIL has some good surprises up it's sleaves similar to SX4 and Swift etc..

Agreed, it has more power than WagonR or Santro. But if they price close to Kappa, then I just feel Kappa has a definite edge with 79bhp. Plus the beige interiors to satisfy the beige crazy public.

Also, the WagonR and Santro weigh around 800 kgs, give or take. How will a 1.0L engine perform on a 900kg car? I hear people complaining with Swift P's 1.3 engine. Low torque etc. Swift engine produces around 87bhp peak and the vehicle weighs around 1050kg. This is my main concern.

Santro:
Kerb Weight = 854 kg.
Power = 63 bhp.
Power to weight ratio = 73.77 bhp/ton.

Wagon R:
Kerb Weight = 830 kg ( non duo, +60kg for duo ).
Power = 64bhp.
Power to weight ratio = 77.1 bhp/ton.

A-Star:
Kerb weight = 910 kg.
Power = 67.5 bhp.
Power to weight ratio = 74.1 bhp/ton.

So A-star will be able to keep its head high. Moreover A-star has better aerodynamics than either Wagon R or Santro. This will also give a boost.
About people complaining about Swift 1.3, well that is a short stroke motor with bore = 74mm and stroke = 75.5mm and this is the reason why it has poor bottom end torque and hence the complain. I dont think any body is unhappy about the Swift's performance on highways where that G-series motor performs well.
In case of A-star the motor is long stroke ( bore X stroke = 73mm X 79.4mm) and hence it will have more bottom end torque available.

@sahil:

Can you please get some shots of the final production cars. Any interior shot also, if possible. Today at around 5pm, I could not any A-star parked at Kiran Motors, Vadodara.

Edit: @ shail did you mean Number of A-star or NO a-star ?

If found NO, sorry for this post and @mods:delete this post.
