Great! They are launching on July 18 in Bangalore Taj West End. I was told there are 3 variants: 1.6 Petrol, 1.6 Diesel (crdi) and 1.9 TDI with DSG

Cheers,

Cheers,
Now thats an interesting addition to the variants list.

If the 1.9TDI is placed between the Octavia and Laura then the 1.6 crdi would be placed between Fabia and Octavia. That might pose some threat to Optra Magnam, higher end variants of Verna & Fiesta or even to be launched Fiat Linea.

The 1.9TDI if it comes only with DSG, then its no way they can place it below octavia. Also we might be seeing some price reduction in Octavia or model discontinuation???

Lets wait and watch.

raj.

There is no information about VW's 1.6 CRDi engine anywhere on the internet. There is no VW even in Europe with this engine. Whats this mystery?

IMO, the Jetta 1.6 CRDi, if launched, should be the costliest variant since it will probably be more powerful then the TDI PD.

I really hope they don't mess up the interiors with beige and wood. I loved my Jetta's black and silver interior when I owned it abroad.

1.6 CRDi is interesting. I have not heard of VW having that engine at all. Is it a new one? So, finally, rumours that VW will move from PD to CRDi are true!

Wow I'm quite the opposite here! I would pick beige and wood over black anyway. To each his own!

VW was forced to pull it's TDI cars from the North American markets because they werent' able to comply with the emission norms ( I know this since I used to sell VW's in Canada). I believe thats when they decided to switch to Crdi. But, the Bluemotion engines, I believe, do comply with the stringent North American emission norms so maybe it's still time till we see a CRDI VW.

Does this mean that North American emission norms are stricter than European norms? VW is happily selling its TDIs in European countries.

Isn't the engine in the Passat/A4 already a CRDI unit? I think VW badges its newer CRDI motors as TDi.

The Passat has the old PD engine. The new CRDi engines are not available yet. The 2.0TDi CRDi will be introduced first on the new Audi A4.

Maybe they don't exist.

NA diesel norms for passenger cars are stricter due to some stupid rules (as usual) by CARB (California Air Resources Board).
