They don't have any competition in the diesel segment other than their own Laura. They have also thought about this and kept the top variant lesser by 1.5 odd lakhs then the top of Laura. This model will give them enough sales to call Jetta a success in India.

Only if.. Competition, the new Corolla, launch their diesel variant along with the petrol one, at a more reasonable price. Till then Jetta diesel will rule.

What is the FE of the petrol Jetta? It’s a big question. If its anywhere near or above 16 - 18 (I don't know) then I have no doubts about this too selling in good numbers. It is the lack of options in each segment that is making the car companies to take the premium on price.

To clear the internal brand position mess, now they must reposition the Laura and Octavia. May be bring in the petrol version of Laura at lower price (fully loaded) and close the Octavia, then get a lower top variant of Laura. Anything. It’s just not Ok as it is now.

BTW: Did they got any bookings in the launch party? I remember in the Civics’ launch party itself they got many on-spot bookings.

Did Petrol Jetta fall from outer space to get an FE like that? If it manages 10 then thats great achievement.

Heavy car, underpowered engine are not the best bed fellows for FE. I don't think it's going to get that kind of FE especially from the petrol engine.

Thanks a lot n aditya had carried my Canon 40D with me, ya the car is real good the build quality and fit finish is much better than the Skodas also the equipment line is more than the Skodas, WV played real good hosts as the VW top brass (Germans) themselves were on the stage and took real pains in explaining to all the functions and features to all who walked near the car.

So a 100 odd bhp engine is really short to compete against the likes of civic and corolla!

Elito

P.S. - So Jetta is going to be a 'little' like Fabia. Good 'Show' but little 'Go'
The base engine on the Jetta in the U.S is 2.5L/140hp petrol and the exact same TDI as launched in India. A 2.5L engine does'nt make sense for launch in India, so what bigger and more powerful engines are you talking about?

Only the GLI version comes with the 200HP/ 2.0L turbo from the GTI and it's far more expensive. They don't even have the VR6 in the range any more. A HP figure on its own does'nt really mean anything.
