Both the Fiat & the Amby did not have full-forward synchros on the 'boxes. First gear was non-synchro & at times could be a rather big pain in the *** as my father discovered multiple times! The mechanic had to be called on both occasions to fix it. I would think the 800 would be the first car with a full-forward synchro 'box.
You are right on both counts. I had a physically challenged colleague who bought an AT version of the M 800 way back in 1988.
As regards the synchro gear box, it was certainly the M 800. My dad, who was used to years and years of driving Fiats and Ambys found the gear box of the 800 to be a welcome change from the past.

OHC was the first to offer bumpers which were an assembly of 3 pieces. From an ownership cost point of view, I thought that was smart.
